  1. A quiet night last night, apart from Cat2 trying repeatedly to get into bed with us (she likes my left shoulder, go figure) and Cat3 continuing to reckon that behind the curtains in the living room is the best place to do the business. Ongoing battles. Calm and grey this morning, off to stretch the legs before the wind (supposedly) returns later.
  2. It's having another nibble now.... Just away with ye, irritating gusty thing!
  3. Blew its worst for about 30 mins around 7 o'clock, trying its best to lift the skylight out. Much calmer now already with very little gusting. Hope you stay safe out east.
  4. Funnily enough, or not, it's really calmed down here in the last 30 mins. We're forecast gusts of up to 60mph over the next 12 hours but so far it's been a bit breezy but nothing to get excited about. Which is maybe no bad thing.
  5. Still got my Dad's ashes too. Not scattering them tonight, he'd end up smeared all over my face in this wind.
  6. One for @Northernlights. Fancy going halves on a copy? https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-022-00158-8?utm_source=Nature+Briefing&utm_campaign=5dfabb4d30-briefing-dy-2022027&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c9dfd39373-5dfabb4d30-46591518
  7. Is he dead? I thought he was just miserable. Strange to think he was PM only a few years ago. The forgotten one.
  8. Enjoy the optimism before it gets trampled... Still got the main lights on here this morning - or at least, turned them off then back on again. Pfft.
  9. Yep, all of this. It's a glimpse into prehistory that you can't get anywhere else. I've been trying to get to grips with Baltic ferries today. Weird timetables for some of them.
  10. Staying with the Hellenic theme, YHC says there not much double glazing, gritting, ploughing, snowmen or anything much that suggests the locals have experienced much snow before or know what to do when it hits. A lot of people just stay indoors and wait for the thaw - which may be very soon.
  11. Oh crikey. He said they had a foot of snow and I thought he was exaggerating...
  12. Youngest HC has a blizzard in Athens. No photos as they have a power cut so he's not impressed...
  13. Fair few snowy places in the northern hemisphere, just not here. Pfft again. At least it's not pithing down!
  14. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDNUOOeOI_Y&t=65s I think there's a couple of salient facts there that aren't mentioned.
  15. Well we have the January page of the calendar on display so I guess it's January. January 2022. Youngest HC expecting to be snowed in tomorrow - in Athens! Scamp he is.
  16. It's not Scotland but this is snowy: https://vegasja.vegagerdin.is/eng/ I've just spent a happy 15 mins looking at snow not in my garden. Forecast for Iceland looks cold for a few days. Another mild morning but grey - apart from a very brief sunny blast an hour ago. Lightening up a bit now though....
  17. Yes. There have been winters where we've been in despair at this time and later, then February and March have been much colder and even snowy. However, for us coasties, the longer it goes like this, our chances of seeing lying snow in the garden dwindle rapidly through February as the sun gets stronger. Nothing is settled yet, though we do need a pattern change pretty soon. And just on cue, a cat wakes up and vocalises agreement.
  18. @Puffy MacCloud generally know as a session - enjoy! Nice mild sunny day here. Except it's January and not supposed to be mild!!
  19. Scottish weather gallery apparently has >19,000 images! What are they? Where can I see them??
