  1. Looks like this will fall well short of expectations for the Brum area. The alignment of showers just didn’t favour us today. But doesn’t sound like much accumulation in region anyway. Let’s see what tonight brings.

Nonetheless that wind has a real bite.

The streamer is quite defined now covering S. Leicester into Coventry and south Warks. Should be a good covering from now on here. Good for them as they have missed out most the winter!!

  2. Looking at the radar, looks like most places Birmingham north should be waking up to at least a covering if the light flurries continue to push through on that howling n.easterly wind.

Already a noticeable dusting on the street /pavements in west Brum.

expecting showers to have more oomph tomorrow ??

    Looking good.

  3. This does have the feel of some of the classic easterlies of the past. They always started with the lightest flurries, leaden skies, and a biting wind.

You can feel the chill embedding in now.

Let’s hope the position of these  streamers vary enough during Mon to Wed to give every part of the Midlands accumulation. ??

But for once this winter the East Mids is favoured over the west.

I can guarantee that there will be more PPN and showers around from Monday-Wednesday than the models currently suggest. The radar will reflect that, no question.

Agreed, we need wait for the high res models to start picking up the distribution of shower activity or streamers or not as the case could be for Monday onwards.

But currently this is looking more very cold and dry rather than very cold and snowy.

The good news is any snow that does fall won’t have trouble settling.

I think the announcement is that the Dutch media have announced a name for the winter storm, Storm Darcy, which will will hit the Netherlands and northern Germany over the weekend hardest, and possibly a small corner of SE England too

Don't forget you're a bit further south and its moving down from the north.

Also west of Bham is a bit higher (100m's?)I am at 85Mhere and its turning now.

    MIA,

Any where south west or west of Bham city centre is great for elevation 170m+ generally.

It has made such a difference so many times in past.

So the amber finally comes out (still not convinced by the validity of one) however isn't the worst set to move south now?!

The warning seems to suggest the  intense snowfall will remain in the north Midlands. But as it pulls away the rest of us feeding off scraps.

That’s pretty exceptional. Must be a very small area that’s in 20cm+ Zone including your area. Really surprised an amber warning wasn’t issued for some parts today.

I was surprised how far north this got looking at the radar.Hopefully many more of us in the region have seen some today.

I did ok here in Nuneaton with around 5 cm so far, enough to see families making snowmen and sledging on the common behind us.Great to see the little ones enjoying this ,some for the first time.

I am too old now to play in it lol,but there's something magical about snow falling and seeing everywhere under a white blanket.

A quick glance at the last UKV model shows the band coming south again this evening but fragmenting as it does.Still the way to look at it anymore is a bonus.

Looking like a good freeze tonight.Surface temp 05z Monday morning-

Looks icy in the morning so take care everyone.

Phil any chance of minus double digits anywhere in the Midlands tonight?

  10. You can see a slow southwest movement in system now on its western edge. Expect Stafford towards Telford may see a pepping up soon.

Here in the West Mids think we need to be a bit more patient but it should move through later for a top up.

looking like Derby Nottingham in the sweet spot right now.

Warley Woods is pretty high up. 230m asl at the highest point. Always a good fall there

Most of Bearwood/Quinton/Warley sits in the 180 - 230 m range.  So it always does much better in marginal situations. No marginality problems anywhere today. Fantastic??

  12. About 3 inches here just west of Bham City centre.  Warley Woods like Narnia.

I would expect the system to slowly start its journey south back through the West Mids on its western edge. But looks like it will fragment as pushes back through.

the northern extent of this has been a surprise.

  13. I know the month is still early, but doesn't it feel like August is becoming more Autumnal.  The month seems to have been plagued by southerly tracking jet in recent years.  Cannot remember the last heatwave we experienced in this month.  August 03 possibly the last time.  Really poor!

It is loosing intensity as its approaching us, but there looks to be quite abit also some slightly darker echo's on the radar (only some), and add on that the temperature are starting the fall as the sun is about to go down, we may get a dusting at least to some of us, IMO.

dusting at best overnight is the most we can expect.  Unfortunately a gap has appeared as it approaches my location. Typical.

Yes a more organised area of snow is heading in the right direction to hit the West Mids region.  a few green spots appearing in the precipitation.  Its always a pleasure to see snow dropping out of the sky. This is certainly more interesting then the cold and cloudy forecasts of the last few days.

But as is usually the way, the system is losing its bite and breaking as it approaches from the east.  Shame.
