We had 10 Fieldfares and 2 redwings in our garden on Saturday all in the same tree. Also saw Pink footed goose and a little grebe on the Thames at Greenwich this week.

In their earlier evening forecast it was due to start in the SE corner and spread across the UK into Midlands and Wales on Sunday. This not happening now then? Huge backtrack if it isn't...
You are correct it will spread northwards but as i was in the London and southeast thread I ddnt want to expand outside this area. The heaviest snow is as I metioned but also Wales will see the same anywhere else 2-7 cm maybe a little more.
-
On the BBC website they have said that from Essex to Brighton you could get 7 inches of snow from Sunday into Monday. They also said that these two areas were in South London so they don't know which thread to put these in either.
Looking at the predicted flow I think they are about right If you draw a line from Romford maybe a bit further up down to Brighton and the expand outside by about 50 miles. Anywhere outside of this will get 2-7 cm but this is just my guess work plus a little bit of help from Ows.Sembach.

Sounds good but dont think it'll work.
Double sided tape with salt on one side and then stick the tape around the rim of the pot, should do the job.
I have seen on an organic site that you are supposed to collect as many snails and slugs and put them in a blender and spread the remains around your garden it supposed to put them off.
Many years ago it was copper strips that were used around the borders as this reacted against their slime trail and they would not cross this. Their are other things that are nore organic such as nematodes.

According to this if your Swallows are going already, then they're really quite early.... do they know something we don't know?
http://www.bto.org/birdtrack/recording_yea...n_migration.htm
The Migration charts seem to have dates for the likes of Swallows and Swifts very late on departure. Normally the Swifts have gone before the August bank Holidays. Swallows tend to head off late September. So I would say that the people that have sent in the reports to the BTO dont know the difference between these birds and have in fact reported House Martins. Any thoughts on this.

The ground at Cheltenham will affect many a trainers, owners and punters fortune's during the festival 12-15th March. As for me It will be crucial for my Ante-post bets which I will be putting on over the next four to five days. Horses can show a marked improvement if the ground is right on the day for them.
12th March Soft-Heavy in Places
13th March Soft
14th March Good to Soft
15th March Soft
Let me know your thoughts
Quote from William Hill Bookmakers
The firm still make good to soft the favourite in their market, with a mainly mild week anticipated in Gloucester.
However, they have been forced to cut the odds of soft going predominating to 13-8 (from an initial 11-4), due to popular demand.
"The going at the Festival hasn't been heavy for almost two decades, but that hasn't stopped punters quite literally pouring their money onto the ground being softer than good on the opening day," explained spokesman Tony Kenny.
"The ground is crucial to the plans of many of the leading contenders at the Festival.
"And with soft ground now a possibility, we expect to see a lot more money for horses that enjoy any ease in the ground."
Official going on the first day of the Festival
Willim hills odds: 4-5 Good To Soft, 13-8 Soft, 6-1 Heavy, 10-1 Good, 200-1 Good To Firm.

The pictures are not that clear but to me it seems that this has been ongoing for a while Grass does not disapear overnight unless you have lots of Rabbits. Waterloged grass will always recover as the roots will be at least 2-3 inches in the ground. wait 3-4 weeks to see if this recovers else turf it

Hi mate, they were probably pruned - the winter forum is regularly cleaned out to keep it a bit tidy
Now that is a real shame because there was a valid point i wanted to make on the post mortum on the snow and forecasts models that we have for today and friday. It does seem that every time I name the date 8 days out for events like this it disapears (lol)

Well I was 8 and remember dad digging out the front door and the back door snow was above the ground floor windows It seemed that we sledged for weeks . The one place you didnt want to go into was the bathroom it was so cold. I remember That we had the fire in the living room alight from October round till spring and the loft being open so that the pipes and the tank didnt freeze didnt like going upstairs to bed always thought that something might come out of the loft. All the washing that mum put out to dry in the cold sunshine only to find it frozen solid and having to put it in front of the fire to thaw out
One thing that I wish I had was photos seems strange now but if the cat breaks a wisker thes somone in the family that has taken a picture of this but an event like that all that was around was news reels and the odd Paper report.

Wonder when the first frosts will appear. The earliest I can remember in SE London is 12th October but as I am so old i cant remember the year. I wouldnt be supprised if Northern England saw some on the 6th-7th-8th October this year

Anyone thinking of planting new fruit trees should look up Brogdale in Faversham. They have the national fruit collection and will supply all the trees you need.
-
If you plant New potatoes now in very large potss you will have them for Xmas day

I have only seen a couple of wasps this year but as everything in the garden seems to be 2-3 weeks late I would expect to se a lot more in about 2 weeks time. 50 years old never been stung but boy dont I look funny running away from those little stingers.

Started snowing here around 7 am very light covering but not turned to wet snow and very light the odd flake passing the window. The tempreture outside is melting the snow on the roads but its still on the roofs of cars and house's and a lght covering on the grass. The weather man said the same thing on sunday morning. By the way did anyone see my post for Snow on the 15th ?

Most replie's seem to have covered the reasons why your conifers are dying, I would try and repot them with fresh soil and a larger pot . Sometimes if you cut them to close to the wood whe triming the hedge, or cut them to late in the season then this also can cause die back.
