Well I woke this morning at around 3.30am and it was bucketing snow, everywhere was white with around 2 inches, got up this morning and there was not a trace of snow to be seen anywhere, when it was snowing the temp was 0 degrees and this morning at 8am it was 3 degrees.
What happened????????

My wife and kids went to Galway for the weekend....which has turned into a longer trip because their flight to Stansted got cancelled. They're now due to fly out tomorrow....but do I see that there is a high risk of snow for Galway tonight?
Hi Timmytour
Galway Airport flights to the UK are the only ones suffering delays at present, there is supposed to be a band of Rain or Snow that will move down over the Country tonight or tomorrow so I guess you wont know until that happens if flights will be going or coming. We were forecast to get Snow last night but it was rain.
-
If we were to get anything like the UK have at present we would grind to a halt, we dont have the equipment here to deal with snow like that.
The BBC were showing Ireland overnight getting a lot of snow and spreading into the West "hopefully"

easter last year was fantastic lots of sun and warm easter day last year
Last year was great but dont forget that Easter was in April last year not the middle of March

Irish Met are saying we are in for a very windy night here with heavy rain clearing in the morning to wintery showers with sleet and snow.
-
Thanks to all for the replies, I know now its something that can happen but its my first time to come across it.

how can you here a flash?
As Paul says it was the static on the radio also correct me if I am wrong but I am told if a flash of Lightning is very close to you it makes a loud crack followed by instant thunder.
-
Hi Roisin
We had a lot of lightning this morning which was very bright but no thunder, now I have never seen lightning without thunder,I know you can see a lightning storm miles away but this was close.
-
How close was the lightning Brian?
Because it was dark at that time it's possible the lightning looked closer than it actually was, sheet lightning can be confusing in that way.
Also, it could have been a high-based storm when even overhead thunder is quieter than you may expect (except when CGs happen!).
Hi Andy Bown, I would have to say it was close as it was dimming lights and the brightest part appeared to be overhead, it lasted for an hour and every flash could be heard on the FM radio.

Hi Guys
This morning from around 7am we had torrential rain, we also had lots of sheet lightning every few minutes which was a brilliant blue colour. What surprised me was during this time of lightning we did not have one clap of thunder.
Wht caused this I always thought thunder followed lightning. Over to the experts here.

Hi Stelmar
Things here in Ireland especially in the West have reached crisis point, all roads into and out of Galway including main roads are flooded houses and business premises are flooded and people are unable to get to work due the roads being flooded,in the surrounding counties rivers have burst their banks as the water continues to rise, 4 young girls from the University in Galway were killed when their car struck a truck, weather poor visibilty and floods getting part of the blame. This morning local councils are saying they can do no more as the rain has been constant since Tuesday evening and there is no where to pump the water too. To add to all this the Irish Met now are giving us Storm warnings for the weekend which could see violent winds hit us and no respite for next week, with all this rain and wind trees are now starting to fall.I will try to get some pics and post them.
