  1. Whatever happens, I think that MB is to be congratulated on his forecast.

The forthcoming storminess was forecast 2 months ago and judging by current output it's gonna be pretty close.

Fair enough he maybe overcooked the severity (GFS does that everyday almost) but the general synoptics are close enough.

Some people on here need to grow a pair of balls and give credit where credit is due.

Read some of the so-called "expert" analysis on here (and TWO) if you want a dog biscuits forecast.

    Dog biscuit......wtf. :whistling::p :p :doh:

  2. Wow! Thanks very much indeed for that analysis OldMetMan. This is exciting!

According to the Storm forecast, the Arctic winds will change direction by 1 Feb to from Westerly to North Westerly.

The ECM 12z chart for 3 Feb you provided was highlighted by LS too. For me, that chart shows my "methods" classic expectation around the UK - just a wee bit further south for that time (nb: I appreciate the Storm forecast is different for 3 Feb)

Great thread Murcia Boy. Hope your forecast verifies. It is quite unbelievable some of the nonsense you have had to put up with.

And thank you OldMetMan. I enjoy reading your expert analysis - absolute quality. Yourself, RJSmith and Bluearmy (Nick L) are far and away the most knowledgeable posters on this and other UK weather forums (TWO and UKWW).

  3. Sounds like you lost the connection. Is it cabled or wireless???

    It's a wireless model.

I've not lost connection, as the wee X still flashes to confirm that it is still speaking to the outdoor sensors.

The strange thing is, I can get the outdoor temp and humidity to register where the indoor reading should normally sit.

Sounds like a fault with the console, but a repalcement is £320........................GGrrrrr.

I might have to phone America as Osbourne suggests. ;)

  4. Hi there,

I've had my VP2 for almost 2 years now but it has recently developed a fault in that it is not picking up or displaying the external conditions, i.e. temperature, humidity, dewpoint, wind speed/direction or rainfall.

Have changed the battery, but to no avail.

I have also read the manual with regards to re-setting the thing but without success. By the way, the display appears to be working fine in that it is showing pressure and internal temperature and the flashing X indicates that it is talking to the remote sensors.

    Any ideas would be welcome.

  5. It's finally turned to rain here too now, we managed to have quite a lot of snow from the north then easterly showers coming in since monday last big blast was around 9-10 this morning - lots of local school closures here too, much of the rest of day was showery then in pm slow thaw intermingled with more sleet/hail showers - we cleared a couple of inches from untouched areas - and now that the frontal system (easterly?) has merged with the earlier shower stream, temps are up and rain.

Just wondering if it will now cool down again.. or if we're set for a night time thaw (we barely struggled over freezing until this evening, currently around 1c)

..Hope you down south that got snow enjoy(ed) it - good fun eh? :)

Although I'm in coastal location, there was a light sprinkling overnight.

However, with the wind coming in of a warmish North Sea, any snow quickly melted and any showers during the day were of the sleety variety. :pardon:

It's has cooled down this evening and current temp is 1c (dew point 0c).

Here's hoping that the forecast for the weekend is upgraded.

  6. Excellent thread, Carinthian. Your updates always make interesting reading.

Anyway, now that we are at the coldest part of the arctic winter, what is your verdict on it so far?

I tend to keep an eye on goings on in Canada and they have been experiencing some amazingly low temps recently. I know that it is not in the Arctic, but Winnipeg, on roughly the same latitude as London, was down to about -40c (-40f) just the other day.

  7. Hello Carnoustie,

Welcome to netweather.tv. Yes, most of us on here are snowmad to the point of obsession. Glad you enjoy reading the up dates. Where are you from ?

    C

Thanks for the welcome Carinthian. ;)

I'm from Carnoustie, on the east coast of Scotland, 10 miles east of Dundee.

Due to the Grampians to our north, we don't do well from Northerlies here. What I'm looking for is something with an easterly component to it. A NE'ly from Scandinavia would be ideal.

Looking forward to reading your updates on the build up of cold conditions during the coming few months.

    Best regards.
