  1. Right folks… That’s it… I’m throwing in the towel on this one today. Although so much seemed right for something to go bang today… There was always so much that didn’t seem right as well. But hey… The storm season is still young. So before I say over and out for the day… I’ll leave you all with latest rainfall radar and lightning strikes map… Hopefully they’ll be of some use to someone else this evening. Over and out from Storm Starved in North East Wales.
  2. Rush2019 Sadly I feel it was not enough to trigger anything today. It tried… But hey… Something just didn’t feel quite right. Hey ho… Finger crossed that we’ll have more luck as the summer progresses.
  3. Flintshire Weather Report… There’s a notable ESE breeze blowing… The sky is hazy/milky… But if you’re in the direct sun, it does feel noticeably warm! … At a guess 21/22° Celsius. I’ve got some exceptionally weak and fluffy convection going on to my north (see first picture)… To be honest, this still could go either way. The temperature in the sun feels like it could do something… But the clouds to my north… I dunno… Time will tell.
  4. Rush2019 Morning @Rush2019 Yeah… I know exactly what you mean… But certainly with regards to storms since 2019, just outside the warning area means that we’ve probably got a good chance. Fingers and everything else crossed!
  5. Morning all. Well although I was well out of the area for last nights fun and games, this morning whilst walking the dog at 05:00 it had a feeling of ‘the morning after a storm’! Anywhooo… I see that the U.K. Meto have just issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for today… And slightly further north! As always… Good luck to everyone with this today, and let’s hope it’s the start of a good thundery season.
  6. Morning all. Just been having a look on the Time and Date website, and the lingering twilight is now upon the mainland UK! Because of 01:37 this morning, Aberdeen once more entered the world of the lingering twilight. The next time Aberdeen will see true darkness will be on the 13th of August! For my neck of the woods, I've got a couple more weeks till we enter the world of the lingering twilight which will be on the 15th May! Now I know many of you will disagree with me, (and if you do, then hey that's fine ) but for me, the long hard slog up to the summer solstice is now underway for another year.
  7. Evening @Maz Thank you for your kind words and understanding on this. I know many, many folk like your good self who suffer with winter S.A.D. … So the fact that I tend to come alive in the dark time of the year; well… I still get classed as ‘odd’… But hey… It doesn’t bother me. I fully understand the feeling that you get from January onwards… As during early July noticing the darkness slowly increasing and creeping in at silly o’clock in the morning, when most normal folk are asleep, to me is a wonderful feeling of relief, and then slowly noticing the tiny increase in darkness at the evening end of the day… Wow! It makes July (for me at any rate) a much more bearable month than May… Even though the day light levels are pretty much the same!
  8. Morning @markyo Seconded, thirded and fourthed mate! For me as a reverse S.A.D. sufferer I’m starting to enter worst time of the year; which as you’ve rightly pointed out is this long hard climb to the summer solstice. I am generally ok with everything until around the middle of April; and the. It hits me hard… Very hard. But like you, I’m also looking forward to the first signs of those autumn mists and shadows once the summer solstice out of the way. No pain, no gain I suppose.
  9. Morning all. Thought for the day…….. This time next week, won’t be this time next week! Well, at least for us her in the U.K.
  10. Evening everyone. Well today has been the first day this year that I have seen decent convection happening. Sadly no electrical activity, but I did get a fair amount of hail around 18:00 this evening. Anyway… Here’s hoping that 2024 is a good and convective one for all of us.
  11. Hello everyone. Sorry for my recent quietness... Real life and what have you... *sigh* Anywhooo... Tomorrow, Wednesday they 20th of March is the first quarter day of the year - the Vernal Equinox, (as we've already had the equilux). So for us here in the Northern hemisphere we're about to enter the 'summer' part of the year. I've already noticed that the quality of the sunlight has altered from what it was last month, it now appears to be much brighter, (when its not cloudy obviously. Lol). The clocks change in a couple of weeks as well... And then it'll be full steam ahead towards the summer solstice!
  12. As the creeping tendrils of freezing mist and fog once more start to stalk the streets… Evening everyone. The last glimmer of the suns disc slipped below the horizon at 15:55! Which is twenty two minutes later than it was back in mid December when it was setting at 15:33! Within the next few days we’ll once again be in the world of post 16:00 sunsets! The peak of the darkness is now well and truly over… Until next December that is.
  13. Well that storm pretty much died out over the Dee estuary/Wirral peninsula… But I did manage to catch this photo before it did.
  14. Holy cow that was a good rumble of thunder!! Forked lightning as well!! Just been out with the dog… I have to say that this is very unexpected, (but most welcome) for late December.
  15. Morning everyone. Well at 03:27 this morning, the Winter Solstice occurred! So this is it folks… The pendulum has reached the end of its stroke… And we have reached the darkness at the end of the tunnel. The next time we’ll be loosing daylight will be in six months time. I know that the morning end of the day has still got a little bit of light to lose … But as of tomorrow… What is being gained in the evening now outweighs what’s being lost.
  16. Well today marks the start of the beginning of the end… For another year anyway! Because as of today we stop loosing daylight at the evening end of the day. The actual earliest sunset is on either Wednesday or Thursday (according to the Time and Date website) … but there are only mere seconds in it. The actual winter solstice is on Friday the 22nd of December at 03:27 in the morning… Plus we carry on loosing daylight at the morning end of the day until the 1st of January! So you can see why I called it the beginning of the end. Lol Anyway… I’ll shut up now as I’m rambling .
  17. Evening everyone. Well sadly this is it… The final few hours of meteorological autumn for another year. *sigh* Mind you… It’s given us quite a bit! Starting off with the September heatwave, a very soggy October thanks to some named storms, and (at present) a very seasonal feeling to end November. So for my final post to the Autumn 2023 thread, I shall leave you with some of my favourite images that I’ve taken throughout the season. (Plus for the technically minded, I decided to go retro and shot these on 35mm! Kodak Gold 200 and a Pentax P30. ) So until next year, farewell autumn… It was a pleasure as always.
  18. Evening @CharlieBear9 Sadly yes, it does seem short… Or does it go too fast? But if you know where to look, the signs of autumn often do appear just after the summer solstice.
  19. Evening everyone. Well sadly we’re in the dying days of autumn 2023. In my neck of the woods, most of the trees have now lost their autumn plumage, but I thought I’d share some of the photos that I’ve taken of the autumn colours at night! I present to you… Autumn by lamp light!
  20. Evening everyone. Well I’m currently on my break in work, and I’ve just been outside to watch the sunset. I can now confirm that due to the topography of the land, that for my neck of the woods, I am once again in the land of pre-15:30 sunsets. I know that in less than a months time the evenings will be getting lighter again as we start knocking on the door of the winter solstice, and the long hard road back towards the summer solstice… But for now, I’m more than happy… The vice has now totally slackened off.
  21. Don’t worry folks, you’re certainly not alone in liking the darker evenings.
  22. Morning everyone. Just a mere 13 days to go now until the clock change from BST back to GMT. I know that many will totally disagree with me, (and if you do, hey that's absolutely fine... We're all different) but I've always found the time around the clock change weekend in October, and Halloween particularly special and magical. For me personally, the sheer horrors of the sun being overhead in the summer, and its seemingly nonstop 24/7 daylight are now but a dim and distant bad memory. ... Until next April that is. Lol
  23. Morning all. I see that the U.K. Meto have just issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for Saturday… Tomorrow! I haven’t really had much time to look into the details, but given this current heatwave, I wouldn’t be surprised by a thundery breakdown. As always… Good luck to everyone with this.
  24. RABBITS! WHITE RABBITS! It’s the 1st of September 2023, which means that it’s the first day of meteorological autumn! And right bang on cue… Here comes the fog! So naturally I had to go and and chase the fog didn’t I? Welcome to the promised land.
