Snowing heavily here in the forest of Dean... but its the powdery snow made up of small, glistening flakes, and blowing nicely in the wind. Has given a covering of about 2cm so far, on top of the 7 or 8 cm still lying from last week. Roads are not good and no doubt there will be problems if this carries on all night.

Upper level developments are whats driving the snow - rather than surface fronts. Cloud formation is looking good across the near continent, and with some persistent snow already in the southeast expected to push northwestwards it looks as if much of central/southern England and Wales could see more heavy snow during the next 36 hours, followed by a respite later Monday before the next spell of heavy snow moves in from the southwest on Tuesday / Wednesday. Could be some large total accumulations across parts of the southwest - especially the Moors and Cotswolds.

Well i am hoping that here in the Forest of Dean we are both far enough north and high enough (about 200 metres / 600+ feet) to see some significant snow during Tuesday - Thursday. Only problem is i am supposed to be heading to St Albans tomorrow so may have to postpone those plans if the forecasts verify!

Certainly looks my area is in the firing line! Will keep an eye out for the flashes (if there arent too many fireworks!). MetO also now have a severe weather warning out for much of the southwest and parts of south Wales.

Radar shows some pretty intense cells near the southwest, but no lightning activity as yet.

Hi guys,
first post for me! Here in the Forest of Dean we had damaging winds for most of Thursday morning and the first half of the afternoon. Power was cut to around 6,500 homes, at about 1pm, and as i post, has not been reconnected to everyone. Lots of tree and branch damage, fence panels blown down, and tiles removed from roofs.

Snow has been persistent since around 730pm last night. New accumulation so far is around 15 cm. With around 8 cm of snow still lying from last week we now have about 23 to 25 cm of snow on the ground.
