Hey guys and gals.... thought you would like to know "How well the METO did" with their snow forecasting !!!! (NOT) but they are still giving their backs a good old pat !!!
From around mid-December, cold air from eastern Europe dominated the UK weather. This was to be the start of a cold spell which would continue up to the start of the Christmas period.Widespread frost, ice and snow affected some areas.
* The first significant snowfall occurred on the night of Thursday 17 December and into Friday 18 December.
* Parts of south-east England, Yorkshire and north-east England were badly affected, with particularly deep snow in parts of East Anglia.

Thanks Mondy for the Photo's they are great

Light to Moderate snow here small flakes tho. Certainly giving a covering on existing snow

Merry Christmas to everyone on NW

I'm disgusted that the UK Met Office as failed yet again to issue any advisories or flash warnings with regard to Widespread Icy Conditions they also failed to warn of snow in my location only a few days ago. What do they ACTUALLY spend our money on ?
So according to Meto Scotland will be above freezing tonight and there is a none existent possibility of -16C or less for temperatures in some area's of Scotland.
I was in Falkirk this evening and most of the roads that I drove on still had slush all over them and very slippery.
Cheers Meto
Sorry Mods but its an absolute disgrace !

Its a shame that the Forth Valley wasn't in the Borders... .lucky so in so's they are gonna be pasted with lots and lots of snow
-
Fine but sustained light snow here now.... temp -0.6C @ 394'DP -1.2C and falling
-
Still have a winter wonderland here with freezing fog... current temp -1.7C at 394'
-
Approximately 3cm of snow fell off and on most of the day/early evening. 394' ASL Another good top up
-
Falkirk had some heavy snow showers on and off all afternoon. 1.5cm on the ground here at Scotweather 394'/120m ASL
-
Meto just issued a couple of Advisories for Heavy Snow 17th/18th East Anglia and SE
-
Is there any direction from where you have done/will do well from?
Due East

I have a saying at just after all the hype....GABIS (gone away before it started)
I am NOT holding my breath for lots of snow! We've just had 4 days of sub zero temps and barely a flake to be had with this morning's precipitation.
It would have to be one stiff Easterly breeze to give us a good covering of snow in Falkirk!
Lets just face it Falkirk is just in the wrong place with the Trossachs to the West, Highlands to the North, Cumbrian Hills to the South West and the Cheviot Hills to the South.....we ARE doomed !
Opps forgot the Pentlands to our South East.... dooomed !
-
btw slightly worried, how much snow would it take to shut the A9 Down completly?
Not much snow would close it at Dalwhinnie and a few other higher points
-
TBH I'm getting a funny feeling that this will be a total none event for Falkirk and the Central Belt
-
BBC has Falkirk down for above average temperatures and mixture of sunshine and rain even though their Wednesday to Friday text reads:
Wednesday to Friday
Bright intervals and scattered showers on Wednesday these merging into a more prolonged spell of sleet or snow on Thursday. Scattered wintry showers on Friday.
I fail to see how we could possibly have snow with temps of around 6C
-
Hi folks,
I've not been online long to catch up, but did anybody get the freezing rain this morning? There is still ice on the ground here from it!
If these charts verify my commute is going to be a bit of a pain this week
We had some fine grains of snow at 394' in Falkirk followed by rain which froze on contact not good. Soon thawed out when temps rose.

Thank you for your reply Shuggee
-
As the precipitation charts can't be trusted yet this far out... I shall ask my question again since I don't see a reply....
In what time frame can we expect the precipitation on the models to sure up ? -

I am surprised we didn't see more than a few grains this morning with the cold we've had over the last few days. Very disappointing this morning.
Keeping fingers X'd for some reasonable snow over the next week. A nice dumping will give me extra time off work for the Xmas period

Mondy thanks.
Fog has lifted in my part of Central Scotland so if it stays away there may be a chance of seeing the Geminids. -2.7C and falling.

Overnight low of -5.1C and currently -2.9C - Sunny with crystal clear blue sky.
Snow is set like concrete and won't be going anywhere soon!
Roads are deadly in our area with people from further up the street stealing our grit salt. Not only are they taking it but they've left us with none so what little chance we had of driving out will be soon gone. How selfish is that
Thankfully I got some grit salt down on the road before it was all gone.
Unless the council fill up the salt bins there will be a riot for grit salt at this rate
