Hi guys was looking for a bit of advice from anyone local to the beacons, we are suppose to be traveling up from the south coast today to do the "big one" Brecon walk on sat, met office are predicting pretty strong winds, was just wondering if anyone local would be able to give any advice as to how safe it's going to be up there on sat ??

1 minute ago, Polar Bear said:

Ah I thought it was issued at 20:41 ?

Am I right in saying the met office issued a red alert for the south,sw,and Wales 10 mins ago for heavy snow and blizzards ???
-
I do like the northward movement of that snow coming up from france, hopefully it peps up as it crosses the channel, but I'm assuming it will be sheared by the easterly wind before it reaches the south coast though ??
-
Is it me or has the channel streamer taken a little shift northwards over the last HR or so ?
-
what do ya think sunday will be like ?? im doing the great south run and hoping it wont be to bad ?
-
i would take option b or c ;0)
-
Is that frontal band pushing north again on the radar?
thats what i was just looking at ! looks as though the tail end is gonna push north towards us ?
noticed a little streamer type feature just off the coast of plymouth as well ? could this link up to the streamer coming off the thames ?
-
the last few radar runs looks to me as if the tail end might just push my way ?? what ya rekon ?? just being hopefull lmao ??
-
looking at the radar it almost looks as if the heavy stuff thats been sitting out in the channel all day might actually just make it on land !!
-
looks to me as if that NE wind is shering the northern flank off ???
-
The main front out in the channel may 'pep up' later and move a little more inland after dark. That is when surfaces such as paths and roads may start to get a covering with the heavier PPN and colder temps.
SM
to my untrained eye though it seems like it would have moved to far east by this evening to affect my area still ??
-
get a nice heavy burst and it starts to stick to pavements then just as it looks like its gonna go white it gets light again and the pavements clear again lol lol if it had all settled here since first thing we would be near on 10cm easy !!
-
cant see it lasting all day for us here ?? and ive read a few post suggesting we might get more tonight as well but i really cant see where its going to come from ??
-
snowing all morning here one min its heavy then its light then heavy again lol settled on grass and cars but not pavements or roads !! it needs to be really heavy for a prolonged period for it start settling on the pavements, the flakes have got alot bigger throughout the morning though, started off tiny this morning now their fairly big and feathery
-
yeah id say it was building as it moves up into the channel
-
well the 18z gfs looks to be a slight push north to me ??? looks better for me anyway in my opinion ??
-
anyone got a link for decent euro radar ?
-
oh dear!
i had to refrain from posting !!!
-
so what time will we start to see the low appear on the radar ??? not till the early hrs im assuming ??
-
well the 18z gfs seems to be a little further south than the 12z im just gonna wait with all my fingers and toes crossed lol
-
reading the model thread it seems like our chances are fading !! gutted !! i was hopeing to see one last snowfall before it warmed up
-
gutted lol dont look like any of that on the radar is gonna stretch this far lol
-
Light snow here in central Portsmouth for the last 20 minutes or so, had a slight dusting overnight on top of around 70% of Friday's snow that was still remaining. Temp -0.6, DP -1.7.
its actually been going since about 8 this morning started as snizzle then turned to light snow

Yeah was just looking at their forecast for the beacons, we have cancelled now, it's not worth risking it, the winds sound way to strong, have to look for a decent window in Sept, looks like the next couple of weekends are going to be similar, gonna be really exposed on them peaks especially pen y fan @886m
