  1. I honestly can't remember the last time when the South of the U.K was due to see up to 100mm of rain. Yorkhire and other surrounding areas got hit by these sorts of amounts as we all know - the result as we all know was major flooding. However, these areas are used to seeing high rainfall amounts, and so natural drainage is more used to this, and can drain faster, but for us down here in the south, 100mm is 2 months worth!! The river in my village floods after 12mm of rain, so 100mm in one day would have major flooding.

In the early 1990s, I remember we saw two inches ina day, and that flooded shops in a nearby town badly, so tomorrow could be very bad indeed!!

Hey there, the post you have made is utter ****, Drainage systems away from yorkshire are just as good you know, the government dont pick which areas can have poorer drainage systems and are more liable to flood. We was flooded in hull(My home was under a lot of water) We had 100mm of rain, and it was chaos, It was even chaos after the first 40-50mm, the extra 50mm just added to the water levels.

Plus, hull its self has not been flooded like this for a century, so evidence does not support your post. I dont want to come accross horrible mate, its just that after what i have been through the past 1 1/2 months we a reaccurance on the way. I do like to think that before people make claims, they should really think about it. I hope you dont get flooded. Its not very nice. oh and p.s The river hull was and is currently on floodwatch for the first time in gods knows many years:)

  2. dont listen to the bbc this is why;

    Headline:

Overnight, snow showers towards the coast. Widespread frost.

    This Evening and Tonight:

Snow showers will move off the North Sea giving local significant accumulations. Otherwise dry, clear at first but cloud increasing later. Widespread frost and freezing fog patches inland.

    Thursday:

Cloudy. Outbreaks of mainly light sleet and snow, mostly affecting the south of the region, wintry showers developing in the north later. Cold in a moderate easterly wind.

    Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Friday, cold, mostly cloudy with further outbreaks of rain, sleet or snow. Weekend, further rain, sleet, hill snow, accompanied by strong easterly winds at times, but a little less cold.

And i have had no showers 2nite at all.

Another thing to note an easterly brisk winds with snow, but feeling less cold! they dont have a swearing is not big or clevering clue!!!

  3. Looking at the radar and it looks huge! Surely all this ppn couldn't have died away by the time it gets to Lincs can it?!

Yeh it sure can die away hehe, seen it enough times :) its the with rain from the west were sheltred by the penines, which takes all the intensifty out of the precip before it pushes over us, all we can hope for us the interaction with the colder air over us and out to the north sea.

    Good luck :)

  4. Man this is getting interesting talking about a battle!!! this cold air dont wanna give up -4 currently here. also just to let people now, u see them showers out in north sea east off coast of yorkshire and further noth, there intensifying, and and pushing directly east to west now, If you look close enough you can see a trend of a possible line forming.

  5. must have a chance at a covering in south yorkshire then. I hope our friends in the south get a right pasting! Don't forget there are people who have children that have never seen any real snow. Kids i teach are 16 and they dont believe snow depths measured in feet from my childhood in the 70's and 80's are even possible, poor buggers!

I agree, but if you look back many centuries ago, 1600's - 1700's there was a trend were the north got it, then all got it , then the south got it. I have a fealing and i dont know why, that next winter might be the one on cards.

  6. steve what is your opinion on any snow reaching North Yorkshire?

I am not steve, but i say one thing me and him have had some bloody good friendly bets on snow and depth estimations! and i will say i have won my fair share hehe. All steve has to do is think a little and he will know who i am. Only one thing i am not better at than him and thats playing a game that involves " chips " ;)

As for the snow, yes i think you will get some, best chance around 3-6pm onwards before it fizzles out, I am from east yorkshire, I have a little bit better of a chance due to the way the band is pushing.

Saturday looks wicked for both of us though ;) These southerns can have the frontal snow from the west, we will have our beast from the east

    Thanks

  7. They are certainly not going to be calm if forecast correctly!

you may get some snow but be prepared to be dissapointed if you expect loads.

Good call, mensioned it before me. Drifting is possible and the potential there for some blizzard like falls " The relative velcoity looks excellent " along with other conditions, there will certainly be downdrafts within the front. So people that are worried about having mariginal temps and dew points, dont worry about it, if you have a temp of 3 or 4oc in this scenario snow may well still fall. due to the downdrafts.

Most likely during the heavier bursts, although generally turning back to sleet/wet snow a little quicker than places north of the M4 corridor.

    thanks

  8. hey please dont speak to me like that. you arent at biggest risk tomorrow but i would agree you have best chance on saturday.

sorry, i had no right to talk to you like that then. Its just when people make such guesses/estimations it gets other people wondering and querying, this is why i never mension more than 1 area. I always say never talk out of your own boundary :wallbash:

hehe good luck with the snow!

    GOOD LUCK ALL!

  9. I know there is a snow event across the UK bar Scotland tomorrow and good luck to all you snowlovers with that, certainly looking very good for some. But just read on the main page of a low pressure system being expected to bring snow to Midlands northwards at the weekend. So does anyone have any more information on this as it is only a few days away and is it looking likely to be as significant for Scotland as the current one will be for many other parts of the UK!? Id love to see some good snow in my area as we dont often get it but also i am planning to drive up to Fort William on Sunday so am very interested to know if this journey looks likely to be affected! We just had one light snow shower earlier but looking good for a few more through the evening and overnight.

Yeah i do, on friday night into saturday (especially sat morning) the low pressure out to the north sea will push back west again, affecting yorkshire, and further up into scotland, my local weather forcaster lisa galagher, and also paul hudson, said that theres the potential for significant amounts of snowfall pushing in from the north sea.

Keep an eye on it :drinks: !!

  10. It could do but you probably wont be the very worst affected. The very very worst affected will be the West Midlands, Parts of East Midlands, S Wales, London and parts of Northern central southern england.

I would say the West Midlands will be the very worst.

I dont think yorkshire is most at risk by far tomorrow.

I would like to ask why you dont think yorkshire is at risk tomorrow, they stand just a good chance as anywhere else, regarding conditions for snow to fall, I have seen the charts and looking at that precip heading in now, its a lot more larger/ and more intense, it also starts further noth.

May i ask where your "" Predictions come from "" Is it that snow ridden hill near you ?

    :drinks:

  11. Really? The METO rainfall rader is really tricking me at the moment. Sometimes its seems to move ssw and sometimes S. Though i think its moving more S than anything else, I hope the air flow will change very soon because that will help. I wish TWS was here to give his thoughts on this.

Hehe, the air flow has already changed, notice the change of direction just north and east of scotland, that will now be the trend for the rest of the showers. Them showers will inteisfy some more, when they hit inland they will intensify before dieing off as they push into lincolnshire and parts of east anglia.

  12. Are you sure? Seems to be heading South to me or am i reading the rader wrong? A NNE would really help at this moment but we only got a W wind according to XCweather.

I will confrim that them showers are moving A south slightly southwesterly direction, the air flow has changed now, I am from east yorkshire, them showers will affect yorkshire and around goole/selby between 10:30 - 12 midnight onwards.

Good luck looks like we will both get a covering off this.

  13. Met Office forecast for North-east and North Yorkshire: -

    </h3>

    http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/ne/...st_weather.html

I have seen that too, what gets me is that on the national BBC, there charts show just a harsh frost with showers/precip far out in the north sea, I watched Paul hudson forecast and he shows snow showers pushing well inland and merging together.

It seems to me that Paul hudson is the only person thats sticking his neck out on this.

    * Note *

The bbc and metoffice are warning of *DISRUPTION* 2-5cm is not disruption, but then again they mension the good old " Higher ground ". If bbc and metoffice went by the charts we do it would be 10-15cm possible in all areas, before warmer air mass turns the precip increasingly to sleet/rain

    hehe

  14. I have been looking at the charts, for temps and dew points, and it seems dew points are fine for the south east, and central southern areas, only thing that worrys me for people down south is that when the band pushes accross dew points and temps rise dramatically, if your lucky you may well only see around 2-3hours of snowfall, before it melting and turning to rain.

Further north into the midlands, northern england, and southern scotland. Dew points and temps do not rise dramatically, when they do they are still around 0 to -1oc (Dewpoint) Which gives that extra boost for continuous snowfall.

For those who have netweather extra, View the dew points and you may well see what i have spotted.

    Thanks
