This is going to be a very long shot but can anyone provide me a link to a high res satellite imagery site that used to be used on here during summer to study cloud tops?? There was the option of full image / high res and it literally took up the whole of the pc screen.
If anyone can help me find the link i would be greatful, Many thanks

Well I for one, am not taking any chances this year. The builders have just finished work in my back garden on a construction scheme that rivals my nuclear fall out shelter of the early 1980's:

Snowbear has explained it perfectly, And its not so much being in Large Crowds. It's the same, as you mentioned.. being locked in a room with a tiger whos feeling rather peckish. You do all you can to get out of that situation. Not because you dont "like" being there. I love going shopping, I love heading into town. I used to really enjoy going out in a car and being places i never been before. Now - its pretty much near impossible to put myself in a situation i am completly terrorified of. And im sure the same goes for all the phobia suffers of storms or any weather as a matter of fact, they would rather be somewhere totally safe where storms dont exist.
The avoidance is where the daily life interference would come in, say going on a 5 mile trip instead of a 1 mile trip to avoid a place where spiders are known to be, or are possibly going to be. -
Being pedantic - Would we be suggesting UK-Wide or more localised? Surely we would have a difference of opinion (as welcome as it is) based upon what benefits us more and the time of arrival.
General setups such as polar lows or easterlies work well for North Kent and more recently ive seen snowfall happening, though not nessecerily from the above setups - more and more around the start of spring as flowers are begining to bud, where as people in Scotland fair better in Northerlies (obv!) and it seems these can occur generally on what would be described as mid-winter so early january

I suffer from panics and phobias, Im now only slightly agraphobic /public places, fear of embarrasing myself and when it starts one half of my brain says its my phobia and the other hlf has dreamed up how i could embarrass myself and how im already doing and its happening right now... its such a horrible feeling of needing to get the hell out of where i am and get home that i dread even having to go places , ive alway thought its funny how i am basically scared of every thing ... everything but im not with storms , which can be dangerous .. i love them and i often think about this and wish i could apply this lack of fear to the rest of my life in the same way !!

I am a VERY big sufferer of the same kind of thing. I cannot physically bring myself to get in ANY form of transport specifically, but like yourself i find it hard to be in public places and large crowds (Demophobia). Hearing people talking about driving or something alone begins to really freak me out.
Storms never really bothered me. And i did used to wonder what was so scary about them, the bigger the better for me. But since i now suffer in such a large way i had to go to my doctor, and am waiting to see a psychiatrist to begin getting treatment (besides the medicine i have to take).. i can 100% sympathise with everyone whos posted here and know how hard it must be for you.
I feel quite lucky that if my fear is to great, i have the option to walk (run screaming!!!!!) away from it. It must be so hard to know something your scared of, is looming in the distance and you cant exactly escape it :o
My thoughts and sympathy with you all *hugs*

Can someone explain to me the levels at which the hPa recordings for weather data is please??
i know 850 is something like 1000ft extending up to 300hPa for the JS, But could someone clarify exactly what height equates to what level (and also if possible, where it relates to aka Atmosphere, Trosophere etc...)

Uninhabitable by 2025? I can think of a few scenerio's where UK would be mass evacuated ~ Drowning isnt one.
Maybe it is the wettest summer* on record though, The top wettest periods for may - july was quoted as going back to 1782 (325 yrs?)
Wettest May-June-July periods for England and Wales2007 379.7
1789 349.1
1879 342.1
1828 329.5
1782 329.4
And surely this will now be beaten with scenerio's being dreamt up for more LP's as we head into August - on top of any rainfall taken since that total was announced.
It does make me wonder though - Will we get more floods from ex storm / hurricane system spinning out from the USA during the end of Hurricane season given in some cases the setup path has been ideal.

It's a shame Steve Murr has'nt had a chance to reply to my questions in the "Can someone explain" thread under model discussion as i have roughly the same question.
The similarity between a previous setup we're experiencing currently with a lower then usual JS, and what caused it, why, and the reprocussions that followed.

Well i hear something overflowing in my neighbours garden but am still playing down prospects except for heavy rain.
Latest METO Radar has perked up a bit more, maybe even with a slight NNW curve to it on its most northern front.

A relatively weak but strongly cyclonic low-level flow is expected south of a large-scale precipitation area. This in combination with moist air and instability with low LFC heights suggest that thunderstorms, which could be rather widespread, may be accompanied by a few waterspouts and weak tornadoes. Some small hail will be possible as well. -
Good Morning GMG. I dont think there ever was a chance of anything in the way of a proper storm to ever come from this. Some Thunder perhaps but nothing in comparison to the past few weeks Kent has seen (Or should i say Tamara / Neil?)
Imo, Heavy Rain, a display across the channel perhaps. Might be lucky to get the odd flash on the south coast. If any thunder is reported further North (at a guess, draw a line north of Ashford) - then they have been lucky.
At least we cannot say Kent's in a drought for once this Summer !

Not that anything significant would reach this far North in Kent, But i would hope they do not decay as IOW Detector has found a storm moving into the Channel so it would hopefully give everyone on the South Coast something to marvel at :o
Shame its not another very warm night, could have been a more spectacular display!
Enjoy what you get everyone but dont get your hopes up to much - this i imagine to be more wet then electrically stormy

just to finish off my 1st report earlier,
2 more storms happened bringing total to 3!!! thunder, lightning, soft hail and torrential rain seen today

Bright pink flickers of lightning, just had some VERY heavy rainfall - and continous gunshot booms of thunder rolling about, eased off now but still very stormy looking and pretty dark
Nope, Still flickering and booming around! maybe i was a bit to pre-empt on the ending lol

Woman trapped by snow rescued

An Australian woman is being treated in hospital after her house was snowed in, reports ABC News on June 29th.
The news provider states that the 24-year-old was trapped by the snow in her home south of Canberra on Thursday evening.
However, ambulance crews were unable to reach her straight away as they could not get through the waist-deep snow.
Skidoos were used to reach the house and the woman was taken to hospital suffering from asthma and hypothermia.
