Heavy wet sneet here now : being blown almost horizontally by the wind : nasty horrible .... totally marvellous weather
My giant lamposts (the Forth Bridges) have disappeared !
-
It was incredible to see how a bit of elevation made so much difference today : EmEight was fine (pouring with rain) up until Harthill this am then white out ; back to rain 10 miles later ! And after my 35 mile commute to snowless Hamilton some people weren't in the office because they were stuck knee deep in East Kilbride snow !!!
Quite amusing though that it takes to the end of Feb before marginality really comes into play
-
Where do you think the snow line is going to be for it's southerly track, and when do you expect it to start on the southerly track?
Probably around the EmEight tomorrow at 7am : as I have just removed my emergency winter bag from the car that has been in the boot for the last 3 months
And yes I am deliberately tempting fate
-
Do things still look good for most of us towards the end of the weekend, or has this all but vanished now? Getting snow withdrawal symptoms.
If it was anymore marg(e)inal it could compete with I Can't Believe it's not Butter!!!
Snizzling here still : ho hum

Brilliant : fighting breaking out on the model thread about the South East based posters not "giving a monkey's" about what weather "the North" may get ............. and they are referring to Yorkshire

Afternoon All,
Has remained a positively balmy 3.5C here pretty much all day ; that said the strong wind is the type that goes right through you. Can see grass in my garden for first time since 22/12 !!!
But an afternoon sledging in Peebles (0 deg C) took care of the snow worries : easily 2 feet deep in places. Almost lost the dog in one drift . Icicles were amazing too.
Think we are in for a few surprises this week : maybe much more marginal than what we have become accustomed to (amazing what we have started to take for granted) but the ingredients are without doubt there and in normal winters we would be franticly watching each model run.

Still going here. Bit lighter than it has been - 4cm so far this am.
By-tor - are the roads ok around Leith ? Wondering if the football is at risk ?
The kids are having a snow ball fight with the dog - its a bit one sided
-
Now even heavier : "snishing it down" in fact
-
Heavy snow here now ...... wooohoooo

All
After my dramatic plea for help earlier I thought I would let you know my girlfiend made it from Edinburgh to Aberdeen safely (she sounded in a state of near shock once her journey was over right enough). Attacked by snow flurries en route but nothing more than that.
Again thanks for everyone's (much required) help : this is a proper Scottish community on here !!!
Cheers
Pol
PS : Hamilton at 1615 was -2 , one drive along the MEight later and -8 at Kirkliston. Radio Scotland insisting on snow showers for the East again tonight not that I can see that from (my limited knowledge of) the current output

All,
A heartfelt THANKYOU to everyone who has responded so quickly ! As you will understand trying to get through to any of the Local Services about the conditions just now is a tad futile.
Have checked out the webcams and that , but more importantly your feedback , has resulted in a decision for my girlfriend to start the drive up to Aberdeen : for the first time ever I am now hoping for a break in the conditions ..... at least for the next few hours
Again - thankyou !

*** EMERGENCY REQUEST ***
Sorry about the dramatic entrance here but I need the members help urgently !!!
My partner's Mum has just been rushed to hospital so my partner needs to get from Edinburgh to Aberdeen (specifcally Banchory but presume the hospital will be Aberdeen). Can anyone tell me how accessible the roads in the NE are just now as she clearly need to get up there urgently but is panicking about wether or not she can get through
Really grateful for any responses here
Thanks

Light snow just stopped here in Irvine.. think it will be an evening of lampost watching !! Off to Peebles on friday for the weekend cheap hotel deal for Barony Castle couldnt have timed it better.. whats the snow depth like over there anyone..?
My parents stay in Peebles : over 30cms there now and being severely topped up just now.
As for the east/west Lothian split : no snow here in S Queensferry - watching the clouds barrelling towards the city !!!
-
Does anyone know if Grey Mare's Tail has frozen yet : that was my lasting memory of the last Scottish Ice Age.
-
Thanks Snowlover2
Hope I can add to the party here.
Model thread about to go into meltdown about the upcoming 10-15 day cold spell (for the South) : that will be 30 plus for us then From what I can see of the latest ECM its not exactly about to warm up
Wonder if the local council would mind if I put our communal grit bin contents on EBay
-
Maybe shouldn't of made my first post then went off for my dinner. Thanks for the welcomes.
Think the front will reintensify quickly once over the hills.
I have my very own giant lamposts (in the form of the two bridges) to watch : once they dissappear I know the snoe will be here in five minutes
So much for my worries about the sear air affecting the snow chances here
MEight tomorrow going to interesting (rear wheel drive joy : am getting used to driving sideways)

My God, Eastern England looks like it's in for an absolute pasting!! Lucky gits
The bulk of Western Scotland looks like missing out. Same old story, when it's raining us folk in the West get soaked and when it snows it's the Eastern side that gets it all. I'm moving house!
This one looks a lot different to normal though : some will certainly get through to the west.
-
Does look far more interesting for us mid-week on though - suggestions of it being far more favourable (for Scotland) then have been there for several days now.
