  1. Ah, just seen this, SIG. I suppose that may account for some of the difference, but I can't imagine the mean has risen by 6-odd degrees C between the two. Maybe they use different places to measure at - where is Svalbard Airport?

    I agree. It seems strange.

As far as I know, NOAA doesn't have their own weather stations on Svalbard. All data comes from the Norwegian stations (there's seven of them - including the airport).

  2. I was up in Fagernes (Oppland) two weeks ago, and the temps ranged from -27C to -4C whilst I was there. Chatting to the locals they said that this year was their best year for snow in 12 years, and it was falling like there was no tmrw. Regional and National differences abound.

Well, the official data (from DNMI - met.no) speaks for itself:

    Fagernes - 365 amsl.

January came in 5,8 ºC above the 1961 - 90 mean. February is currently (1-17) 4,0 ºC above.

    January 08

Avg.: -4,7 ºC (the avg. is -10,5 ºC)

    Avg. low: -8,1 ºC

    Avg. high: -1,4 ºC

    High: 8,0 ºC

    Low: -20,8 ºC

  3. Great site!

Its quite "warm" here at Tynset (relatively speaking - as we had -10 C last week) this morning.

    At 09.00 (UTC 07:00):

    Temp: -2.7 C, rising (slowly) (Low today: -4.4 C)

    Humidity: 97%, steady

    Pressure: 1024.8 mb, steady

    Wind: Calm
