Blizzards and drifting snow, snow just looks so beautiful and its a good excuse to take the day off work and go sledging with kids all day

Careful SF I'm not sure the high is going to get all the far away actually given the way the block has stayed around in the last few weeks, looks to be every bit as reluctant to shift as the models are progging. Even when it does move out of the way note the sort of breakdown the models have, we go from a cool E flow to a nearly as cool NW LP flow.
Still as I said before the set-up we have right now is what I fondly call through the backdoor, nearly every time people underestimate its effect on the CET, esp deeper into the winter.
totally agree kw but the continent isnt really that cold yet temps in lapland are still a little above freezing so will it really get colder here
-
i dont think i can remember the last white xmas i had, i know we missed out by a couple of days a few years ago
-
I think it will most probably be below average but not by much. I still think that October will turn out to be above average temperature wise overall and drier than average, which is a nice change after recent years.
i totally agree with you don, even though there are some colder minimums forcast daytime temps have been in the mid to high teens for the majority of this month so definately above average
-
10.6 for 1961-90 and 10.4 for 1971-00
cheers don
how much colder do you think the second half of the month is going to be?
-
what is the cet average for october?
-
i dont mind the temps hey isnt that what were after cold!
very appealing, i might venture up there for some fun.
its worth it just for the northern lights

hi tws. hope we can some wintry weather early this year aswell.
i say you had a ball, i love to go myself sometime.
its really reasonable if you go in januart or february 1 week half board about £500
snowmobiling and riding your own husky sled was great. but it is very cold, it hit -32c one day
-
yes thats right, i remember it, i was driving back from the shopping centre and it started snowing heavily, wet snow and didnt stick but i was impressed to see snowfall so early, a pity we didnt have a follow on from that.
jon do you have a deathwish or something?
I think i must have done but i just love snow and thers plenty of it up there, great skiing and snowmobiling too

ideal a perfect winters tale, even if it doesnt snow we will have alcohol, now we dont need cold synoptics for that do we.
sorry im terrible with dates, but was that on a friday?
Speaking of alcohol i stupidly decided to jump into a 5ft snowdrifter at -18c when we walked home from the pub with normal clothes on whilst on holiday in lapland

defo mate about 4pm xmas eve when we close our flower shops will do me
-
cheers mate well im sure we're looking forward to an early snow event this winter.
-
we had snow last november from a northerly.
what area are you in
november can be a funny month and can throw up all sorts of weather
-
I think it'll be December before inland low lying areas of the UK get any snow, just a guess.
November 2005 though we had 4 inches and it stayed on the ground for over a week. That's only just over a month away. Let's hope for a repeat.
hope your right mate mind you i remember a couple of years ago we had a snow in novemeber even this far south
-
the best time is at weekends so i can take the kids sledging haha!
-
some long range forcasts are pointing to a possibility of the first snow by mid november, if only!!!
-
as i posted in the winter discussion i was read an article on a website the other day and it was predicting that the NAO would be below average for this winter would this trend towards a colder than average winter?
-
