this temperatures created by particular inclination of Haigh Pressure: generally, the sub-tropical extend from South-west to North-East but now is from South to North and the wind at ground blow from south in the adriatic area and suoth-east on the tirrenic area (foehn effect)

  4. Hi Franko

I just discovered your thread this evening and have to say that it made a great read.

Been lucky to have visited your country over the past 2 years, on both occasions to the lake area in June 2006 (not much happened in the way of storms) and August (amazing overnight storms over lake garda).

Just wondered what is the best time of the year for storms in your area? - I'm guessing that things could be very dry over July and August?

    Hi Mac

the best time for storm in my area is between Spetembar and November but in the hot month (May-August) they could be very strong

they aren't rare in the other month, here we have heavy contrast between cold and hot air because we stay in the middle of Balcani's mountains and Africa

some photos of heavy thinderstorm, there are funnel and tornado

    (they aren't mine)

  5. wow Franko some rainfall rate that, and some high totals, just seen Bergamo, I land there in July on the way to Verona.

Hi John, this month could close on the average in the North, like April.

But here, in my land, the situation is dangerous: strong rain deficit between 40% and 60% and the hot and dry season is starting!!!

  6. Hi guys, how many time! I don't write in this great forum since a long time!

I'm coming to post an incredible date: in Formica, near city of Modena in Emilia Romagna north Italy (near Bologna city), heavy thunderstorm with tropical rain rate of 1125mm/h!!!!

  7. hi guys

the strong cloud and the cold see stop the temperatures

without fohn effect, they've remeined at 20°

in Sicily some 30degrees, in my region two days ago 25-27° in some city

    we've been lucky

  8. yesterday, great funnel cloud in Grottaglie near Taranto, 100 kms weast-north-weast from here.

    trombadariavz7.jpg

    this photo isn't mine

some people have seen another funnel at 4-5 kms North from here, but I haven't picture.

  9. Is Italian Spring generally unreliable or fairly settled?

I like those temperatures in the Foehn. When we get it over here it won't get that hot so early in the season- unlikely to get over 25C in the warmest places until October.

sorry to respond delay, I've just red your question

italian spring is unreliable, in a few days we can have a cold incursion (maritime from Rodano Valley or continental from Bora ) and after very strong sub-tropical Hp, especially in the end of season. what can I say: changeble, variability...?

sorry I can't explain better because I dont' speak well

  10. very interesting sat image for mediterranean see!

a clouds of 2500-3000 km, from Libya to Alpes! I think it's big WCB

very wet air, strong vorticity and CAPE! 60-70mm in undreds km in the south Italy.

heavy snow at the est mountain of the central Italy: frequently over 50cm

at 200kms from here (in the north) 50-60mm and heavy rain: in Locorotondo rain rate 225mm/h!!! http://meteoloco.altervista.org/downld08.txt (see 06-03-08 19:20)

  12. I amazed by that dewpoint! Is that normal in SE Italy at this time of year?

Yet again, the common occurrence of perfect temps for snowy ppn, but nothing around to fall!

(This is Scoot speaking from London...not my lucky business partner Pavlos in Athens. He enjoyed it thoroughly)

absolutely not normal in any season.

the condition was very unusual: -12° at 850hPa and only -27° at 500hPa but the air was extremly dry!

  13. Hi people!

last week-end very cold hair interested my zone: -12° at 850hPa but only -27° at 500hPa! the instabilty hadn't a good energy, but the Adriatic See Effect Snow created a lot of clowds and some coreografic snow

temperatures were around 1°-4° at see level, but dew point from -7° and -14°!

some videos, aren't good but in the night I can't do better.

near the see, wind blowned at 90km/H, was impossible go out from the car.

in the last days, this zone had a strong termical inversion, some min temperatures (at see level)

    -6.3°/-4.5° Martano

    -2.9°/-4.2° Torre Santa Susanna

    -1.9°/-3.2° Lecce Ist.Agrario
