  1. Nearly crashed the car this morning on the way to drop the kids off when I spotted a funnel cloud over Worlebury Hill, Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset. At about 7:50 BST, a heavy westerly squall blew up. Luckily I had my little digital camera in the car (always on the lookout for K-H events...) and after frantically searching for a safe spot to pull up snapped a few pics. Using google maps, I reckon I saw this from almost exactly one mile away. The photos didn't do justice to the structure I spotted with the naked eye, so in 2 of the images attached I've used PS CS2 to enhance contrast. The funnel was very elegant and thin, and seemed to come close to (but not reach) the ground beneath. My six year old was very excited, and a little frightened, and I hope that this is the start of her extreme weather hobby! Haven't seen any reports of damage or other images in local news today but I'll keep an eye out for others who may have spotted it.

  2. The 2nd picture is beautiful, the sort of sky I could look at every day!

To be honest Andy, I couldn't stop myself from looking too! There was so much going on yesterday. Lenticulars everywhere, with these weird looking features that look like hole punches, although I'm not sure they were.

A couple of months ago I was lucky enough to see a beautiful Kelvin Helmholtz wave and tried to snap, from a moving car (shh...) with my really awful mobile phone camera. But the pics were rubbish. So now I'm taking a better camera out when I remember. Wish I had my Canon, but my ex wife kept that... Nothing at all to snap today - couldn't have asked for a more perfect clear sky.

  3. A very mild and beautiful day, dominated by altocumuls lenticularis. Saw dozens today, here in Weston-super-Mare. Late in the afternoon I noted what I thought may be a hole punch, but I'm very new to this, so not confident with this assessment. Anyone care to help me out?
