  1. I personally love an Summer like 2009 just standard average summer fayre not terrible not poor by anymeans plenty of usable weather. But sunny and low twenties is perfect for me anyway. I often wonder how people on this forum would cope if we had bang average summer period like what we had between 2000/02 typical standard british summer i dread another 2022 style heatwave.

  2. Deep cold and snow laying on christmas day is rare but snow actually falling on big day itself isnt that rare. Im at sea level and it snowed on xmas day 93 and 95 sure it did in 96 aswell also 99 and 2000 though cant remember it laying  2001 snowed just before christmas same in 2003, 2005 just after then 2009 and 2010 had laying snow and snow on day to then was an big gap till 2020 where we got brief flurry that left the thinnest covering.

  3. Rain turned to snow this morning around 5am got brief cover before quickly thawed in the strong March sunshine . Two short spells that have produced lying snow this week after another pretty much snowless winter  far better weather wise then god awful boring Feb just endured. Really hard to get decent snowfall here in March or even in deepest winter these days slim pickings.

Amazing difference being further inland and higher up does some great pics. What an contrast this afternoon from this morning felt warm in the strong March sunshine daffs out some tree's in blossom took this pic of an snowman hanging on surrounded by green.

  4. If we cant get snow then frosty sunny weather will do better then relentless wind and rain being very benign so far lack of very stormy weather this winter which has being very welcome.  On an side note its now nearly 10 years since we had an significant cold spell in January very damning stat and worrying trend since then had odd covering of snow in Jan which has largerly melted same day. Still few weeks left yet for that to change looks highly unlikely.

Let see what Feburary brings long way to go yet but if we dont get any snow in Feb this will be the third winter in last 10 years without falling or lying snow another unwanted stat and even for our low lying location very unsual if not expectional sign of the times i guess least we got lying snow in November at time i thought this will be probably more then we get in winter might be right

What's the point of a hot summer when you'll have to spend it in doors?

As said earlier, it is premature but the 2nd/3rd update of GWV continue to support a cooler than average summer, dry at times but unsettled with a wet August and July.

Indoors? your aloud out go sit in the garden if possible it's beautiful out here lovely after an misersble wet stormy winter. Blossom and buds and nature etc responding.  Shame this virus has taken the shine off it somewhat no pun intended.

Cheers suprised got that low this winter. 2014 was an stinker -9.0 bad times how depressing nowhere has got  below -15 since 2013 seven years ago quite telling. I guess the 2018 low shows what can happen with the right set up in place and in South East England to.

Is it me or is British weather getting more and more boring?
I fear that by the time I eventually have children of my own, they will not be able to experience the joys of playing in the snow as we will no longer have any snow at all by that point. The way things are going, I can certainly see that happening.

While it does seem that way is that actually true ? Only two years ago we had widespread snow across the Uk. Plus the hot summer of 2018 hot spell last year to with the temperature record broken. This winter has being guff though for cold just rain wind and more rain and more wind never felt mild either because of the vile wind making it feel about 5 degrees colder that what it actually is. Last two days was beautiful here sunny and calm. Back to awful cold rain today at 3 degrees earlier just to rub it in cold but not cold enough for snow. Be interesting to note coldest temperature recorded this winter and how it compares to other winters ?

It'll be 3 out of the last 7 winters without any here and two of those had only dustings, so 5 out of 7 really. Totally abysmal.

Has being poor since Jan 2013 apart from Feb/March 2018 here just had dustings or coverings that have melted in an few hours but i can only remember 2013/14 being snowless here this will be second one if we dont get any snow this winter im about 5 miles west of Hull in Hessle. All we seem to get is north west winds which are even rubbish for most of the north west below 100 metres or near the coast because jst get rain/sleet unless really cold uppers.  Good for Buxton and the peaks high ground of north west Scotland etc  useless for near enough everywhere else.

A northerly would most certainly be more beneficial to us at the moment with the cold air bottled up over the pole.  I would think this will be the mildest winter on record for parts of Europe at least.  Hopefully a one off but with climate change, it will likely become more common in future.  Europe certainly had some intense heat last summer, leading to the UK recording its highest temperature on record (38.7C) at Cambridge.  As to this coming summer, who knows?

Interesting to note Moscow had it coldest August in 2019 on record maybe just natural variation and sort of one extreme to another.

Indeed.  Even if we were to get a BFTE now, I can't see how it would deliver much of a punch!

I would prefer an potent Northerly tbh but there have being as rare as hens teeth in recent times. Surely some parts of europe must be recording warmest winter on record? one off or an worrying trend ? Makes u think what might happen in summer with regards to heat espcially in mainland Europe.

  11. Feel so nice to feel that sun on face after rotten weather had recently roll on spring and some warmer weather fingers crossed. Sick to death of this never ending Autumn another winter passing by without any significant snowfall or any snow in this case and an handful of frosts very poor. Worse thing even though its being mild never felt it really apart from the odd day because of nagging wind which has made it feel colder then actually is or maybe just old age and feel it more now ha.
