  1. interesting to see that temperatures are still in the mid to high 20's across much of southern alberta and have been for some time now...a record breaking september perhaps??

First major snowfall I have noticed for the season. Not sure if it'll hang about to begin creating a base for the Colorado resorts whilst in the Canadian Prairies the temps could hit a high of 90F mark including major cities like Calgary, AB, Regina SK and possible Saskatoon! Wednesday could see near record-tying high temperatures for Calgary, AB???Posted Image

Surely a maximum temp of 33°C - (92°F) for autumn is quite remarkable now surely if not unheard of? - See below:

Both AccuWeather and CBC Calgary weather forecasts the same temps as seen below!

I do remember last year Banff and Canmore had already experienced sub-zero temps with frost and snow by this time!

  2. More wintry weather on the way and staying cold according to the Met Office:

UK Outlook for Saturday 14 Feb 2009 to Monday 23 Feb 2009:

The outlook for this period is for the fairly cold weather to continue. There will be more in the way of dry and fine weather around than we have seen lately, with some hard night time frosts, but also some reasonable spells of sunshine by day. Wintry showers are also likely however, particularly in northern and eastern areas of the country, though nowhere is immune. This means there is a risk of sleet and snow almost anywhere. Later in the period, there are indications that the weather may turn more unsettled, but remain cold. This indicates that the probability of snowfall will increase, and again all areas are at risk, but northern and eastern areas are perhaps the most prone.

  3. Heavy rain (still) almost no wind, coming from the East, pressure down to 985mb from 1002mb at 11pm last night. Still loads of snow cover, although its showing signs of wear and tear!!

I'm still thinking the ski resort is a starter though!

Matt - We have heavy rain with occasional sleet and the temp is now 3.8C!

What is the temperature there Matt?

DARTMOOR still keeps its snowfall as seen below:

Are there any live webcams for Exmoor?

  4. Heavy rain here and it is only 9:15am. Could we see a thundersnow event tonight?

I think that the so called "Winter Storm has arrived earlier than anticipated. We have had heavy rain now since 0600am. I also believe that there has been rain in Wales and the Midlands which wasn't meant to arrive until 3pm. This rain should melt the snow. I guess things in life happen for a reason, in the way that the rain will do it's best to melt the snow before more comes down. Here is the Met Office weather warning:

UK regions: 60% East of England

    60% Wales

    60% South West England

60% London & South East England

    Heavy Rain 1500 Mon 9 2359 Mon 9

Outbreaks of rain will be persistent and at times heavy. Accumulations of 25 to 35mm are expected. Combining this with melting snow, this may lead to localised flooding.

    Drifting Snow & Heavy Snow 1800 Mon 9 2359 Mon 9

Rain turning to snow in many places will give accumulations of 5 to 10cm generally and 15 to 20cm over hills. Some drifting is possible in the strong easterly winds.

  5. Same here, one minute its snowing, the next there is drizzle. Snow still deep tho so unless there is a downpour (probably tmrw) the snow should hang aorund, still feels mighty cold out.

Matt - Just looking at the amount of snow in Dartmoor which looks impressive

    http://www.dartcom.co.uk/index.php?pageID=7

The weather has been strange today - We had snowflakes falling at 5.2C earlier followed by rain with sleet with the odd flake and now the temperature has fallen to 3.8C with fine drizzle!

  6. Still snowing over Dartmoor and cam now looks like an Alpine ski resort Village:

    http://www.dartcom.co.uk/index.php?pageID=7

So if there is about a foot of snow with 3ft drifts and 9 inches widely, which freezes tonight and then tomorrow night we get another dumping as a channel low approaches whist could give 1 metre of snow???

Did they not forecast for rain today? Can you believe it that Plymouth and Lyme Regis never saw a flake of this whilst some parts of the county especially Okehampton has seen 2ft of snow 55cm. That is incredible.:)

  7. Another on bites the dust! - Things could change.

There has been 60cm over Dartmoor and parts of Exmoor with Okehampton seeing 55cm just under 2ft of lying snow, 21cm over Dunkeswell and 25cm on the foothills of Tiverton and this has not thawed and is re-freezing. I DOUBT it will melt in a hurry in temperatures of -2C to -5C by night. Let's say we could have wet snow tomorrow night and if that accumulates, and we end up with another 10cm to 20cm on top of existing snow and ice what will happen? What erratic weather yet the Met Office forecasted this winter to be milder than average. I am not complaining, I love the snow. B)

I feel as if I am in the Great Lakes of North America with one snowstorm/winter storm after another!

Take a read of this Met Office forecast for Monday and Tuesday:
