    Any good costal webcams ?

Sennen Cove, Cornwall, in contrast to Jersey, looking particularly beautiful on full screen this afternoon as nature prepares to put on a show. Anyone fancy some surfing this afternoon?

I notice the house in the foreground being built/renovated is without its roof already - I wonder how that will affect it in the storm?

Sennen Cove live webcam overlooks the beautiful Sennen Cove in Cornwall UK from an ideal location high above the cove.

Can't help but be disappointed that we're going to miss what may have been the strongest winds in living memory for me (I was too young for '87 and the one a few years later).

Eunice remains king, at least for this decade!

Don't be disappointed - 1987 was truly terrifying to live through. The noise was terrific and the tiles on the roof were lifting and rattling all night as the good people of the south-east lay in their beds wondering what on earth was happening (remember few knew it was coming that time).  What started as a bit of fun soon turned into a literal nightmare with terrible damage and tree destruction.

As well as damage and flooding, there will be some loss of life this time round - there always is. I pray for everyone's safety but this looks like it will be a disaster for many here and on the continent.

Yes the radar looks like it’s clearing from the East typically  just as the cold is turning it to snow. Well we may catch a streamer in a couple of days here’s hoping.

What we are seeing on the radar at the moment is the last of the "warm" weather pushing away. The bitterly cold weather is coming in behind it from the East - clear at first and then.... well you know the rest!

When I just asked her if it'd snow tomorrow, My Alexa just said to me "look, stop asking me the same question, I've told you yes, idiot".

In all seriousness, while I love all this technology at our fingertips, being able to see the model runs and interacting with other snow lovers on this forum, there is a part of me that misses the innocence of the 80s. I remember January '87 well. I was a 13 year old and the first I knew it was going to snow was when I looked out the window at the lamppost. I sat there for ages just watching it! Always seemed to start snowing early evening back then from what I remember although that's probably wrong.

The 2 or 3 days we got off school were so exciting and mainly were spent sledging down the steep fairway on hole number 2 at our local pitch and putt course (which sadly isn't there anymore). We'd have a quick 30 minute break to go home and have lunch, change socks and gloves and be back out for the afternoon. Halcyon days that live long in the memory. Here's hoping you all get some snow. Enjoy it, take loads of pictures and make the most of every moment. My kids have no idea what's coming so here's hoping to see some happy faces in the morning.

I heard they had to close your local pitch and putt because some kids kept using the fairway of hole number 2 for sliding their sledges down.

So @alexisj9 and @Snowy Bob our time  may have come at last in our little corner!

I think Alexis might get more as she’s a little higher up than Bob and I (going by location info and past memory) but fingers crossed we’ll all see something decent.

My first threshold for a decent snowfall is when i can’t see the grass poking through the snow anymore - if we get to that point I’m happy!

The second is when you roll a snowball up to make a snowman, you don’t uncover the mud and grass underneath. But from memory, that needs to be a pretty decent depth.

I'm just nipping out to cut the lawn on short setting!

Genuinely for a minute or two couldn't tell if it was snowing or blowing. It's snowing, just a little shower.
the drifts are beautiful out there.

Our school is closed because many of the teachers and pupils don't live here, there are train and bus cancellations. They'd rather close the school than have to deal with stranded children unable to get home.
My children have had very few snow days off compared with how many I had as a child.

Nowadays, teachers who want to remain sane throughout their career will make sure they live just far enough away from the school or college to ensure that they never bump into pupils/students in the street!

I imagine a lot of it is due to teachers not living close to the school and unable to get there. Same as some pupils are unable to get there. For instance, I live 16 miles away from my sons school, roads have been impassable from here to the school by car and it’s a tad of a walk for us :cold: I don’t remember schools closing either when I was a kid, but I guess with public transport and more people owing cars, people live further from the school they work at/attend, which is all fine, until weather like this when public transport goes belly up and cars are as much use as a chocolate teapot :D

Yes, and I can remember the free third of a bottle of milk arriving in crates frozen solid in winter and we would spend our 15 minute break trying to defrost it with our hands and a straw! We never managed it on a really cold morning so we had to put the milk back in the crate and go without!

Now up to 11cms here, 10 miles west of Ipswich. My interest now is the strengthening easterly wind. First of all, for those in the west of the Region this could see showers reaching further inland. But secondly, the snow lying on tree branches and roofs is already being blown about. I can see problems later as the wind gradually increases. Gusts of up to 40mph by this afternoon will see this dry, powdery snow getting blown off fields, etc., and possibly blocking roads. Despite snow showers easing, will places experience 'ground blizzards' later on?

Just measured accurately as 6" (sorry - old school!) depth here in Worlingworth - NW of Ipswich. p.s. anyone seen our cat?

Very interesting progressions and especially the chart above which clearly shows the kink above the Bristol Channel in an otherwise quite circular and unblemished system!  Fascinating how the atmosphere works - will we ever be able to model all its complexity....

No - we have as much chance as managing to model personality - too many variables.

Understandably lots of emphasis on this low moving up from France for end of week.

From Wednesday with a very deep cold pool over us the models will flip with scenario’s... don’t get caught in the rage just yet - it’s 5 days away. Many many changes to come.

Here is a pic of my garden in 2009 when I lived in St Albans, Hertfordshire when the charts & TV we’re predicting streamers and the heavy snow to go London southwards.

I woke up to 7 inches, fear not... everybody in this region is at risk of deep snow Tuesday/Wednesday

Nice snow from St. Albans, Ben!  I was born there and can remember the 1947 snow (just!) - it went over the tops of my wellies so I wasn't allowed to go out in it to play!!

It means that the drivers, who are the ones who pay for the breakdown cover will be rescued but the passengers will be left stranded, lets hope the passengers have the forsight to take a flask of coffee with them.:nonono:I'm happy to report that baby is flourishing, always a worry to have such a tiny scrap of a thing with cold weather expected.Anyone have any guesses for snow when/accumulations, for this area of the coast. ?

News to me - re breakdown services - AA certainly takes registered person and all passengers - the registered member does not even have to be driving, nor own, the car.

Lowestoft is currently 2C with a DP of -1C. radar forecast has a few flurries there starting at 6pm. ECM has a total of 3cm for that area.

I would bet my house that by Sunday morning Lowestoft will have seen some falling snow and possibly a light covering. "

Still confident Tim, or are all bets off?!
