Wet snow in Derby - fairly biggish flakes - settling on car but doesnt seem to be on ground.
-
Whats the latest charts / radar showing for Nottingham ( Ng16 ) ............. I cant see any charts to try to see for myslef so any help appreciated
Radar shifted to cover Derby and Notts - feed coming from east so hopefully old for an hour or so.
-
Starting g to snow in Derby yeah!!!!
-
It's actually headed south over the last two hours, but starting to pivot. Lots of heavier echoes to the east and south of us. Patience should pay off, and it'll be colder when it arrives. (Hopecasting?)
PPN has widened the gap between derby/Notts snow shield however further west it has moved north. Im clutching at straws. I cant belive we've been surfing the orbage stuff all day on raintoday

For those who it may concern, I've filched the Murr Scale from the LSE thread:
0- Nothing / Nada / just curtain dust + flies around the outside light
1- Odd pellet here & there- however we can mentally confirm there are 'flakes'
2- visible light snow falling- not visible to the lampost yet ( unless you stand underneath & obscure the light)
3- flurry level- makes light blue on the radar & a few flakes seen across the lampost
4- we can confirm snow falling without staring at the light- Can confirm to friends & loved ones its snowing via text etc
5- Status 2- moderate flurry, its fine snow at the moment still- it looks quite hard in terms of snow falling however its not amounting to anything
6- proper flakes falling- you will see them now- the odd flake mixed in with the moderate fine snow
7- transition to normal flakes all complete- moderate snow outside
8- 20p flakes going at a steady pace now- accumulating around 0.5cm - 1cm per hour
9- heavy 20p Snow - visibly accumulating + 1cm per hour
10- entry level heavy snow arriving- 50p flakes fluttering in the 20p flakes.. awaiting the beast...
11- 50p flakes nearly transitioned over- we can call it heavy settling snow 2cm ++ per hour
12- Very heavy snow inch per hour all 50p flakes
13- Blizzard- combined with +40 MPH wind-
Derby is a 1 on the Murr scale. Nearer the double figures please.

Why is it snowing in Derby now? Nothing on the radar
I'm also in Derby but no snow here.
This pepping type of weather my words after years of radar studying.
There's a main band coming. You can see it quite well here Ahead of t http://meteox.co.uk/forecastloop.aspx?type=1 that its pepping. That's when you get reports of snow not on radar. I think it's to do with high moisture content in air but someone might know better.
Looking forward to seeing the snow.

You may well be right about the rain. I havent ventured out yet but it does look like rain.

Raining in Derby Dewpoint -2 so hopefully will turn to snow soon. raintoday shows lots of ppn pepping up in the east midlands. http://www.raintoday.co.uk

White out in Derby.
-
Any chance of the ppn coming over from Ireland will fall as snow ?
-
Derby isnt bad not stopped since 3pm varying light to moderate with a fairly constant temp -0.6 although dewpoints have risen throughout day from -9 to -2.6 current and still rising. About 2 inch of lying snow.
Just been out a snowball fight with my girl - I won ;)In the words of McDonalds "I'm Lovin It"
-
The first front seems to be struggling to move much further, the second front is starting to join it, this is when the real heavy precip bumps in. It will be interesting to see if it manages to go the whole hog and clear the SE later.....
Nah its going to stall over Derby - I wish
-
temp in Derby starting to rise. Temp has been a constant - 0.6 since noon but just had a sharp increase - dew points still -8 (although rose inline with temp). I guess this rise is suppose to happen ??
-
Snowing moderately in Derby - settling and roads and cars turning white. Lovely jubly.
-
Very light snow just started in Derby
-
Is it just me or is the band about 2-3 hours ahead of schedule?
Think its the second band that is the "one".

Bah -- that rogue shower was heading right for me, but has died out at the last minute. Not that I was expecting anything this early of course, but it would have been nice. Here's hoping all of us in our snow-starved region have a good story to tell by close of play tonight.
From what I have been reading is that the fact that rogue showers are fizzling is a good sign. A build up to the block/stall. Any experts want to elaborate.
I am so excited, I am like a kid at xmas. I cant wait for the snow to start either. Wish I could fast forward the day :clapping:
