  1. That storm is now in Wales just pivoting over the Beacons and just to the north of me :wallbash:

gutted! sky went dark to my north, got a slight shower and could smell that smell of conductive rain.....looks as though the land is forcing some further conduction ten mile north of me, hail core has reappeared!

  2. Oh yea of course, didn't occur to me about the telephone lines, wallbash.gif lol.

It can help but you must also make sure you protect your computer from your incoming telecom line as well - I've had one blown that way - safer just to power down if it's a nasty storm - but saying that the one that got me via the bt line was a "bolt out of the blue" and not a general storm

  3. After a horrible hot day at work, while gas cutting lol, I am looking to the south in France and I have to say im a little more optomistic. They are just bursting into life in the space of even an hour and really looking good. Fingers crossed for anyone along ths outh coast!

Sat24 showing those cells literally exploding in the last 45mins or so. don't think they will manage to cross the channel still with their intensity, but you never know!

  4. Just seen the national and local forcast's.

Looks like my area is hit and miss on the event tomorrow, with places further South & West getting heavy thundery rain, while this area could get showers in the afternoon.

As alway's, it's a case of seeing what happens at the time.

Maybe, but the front seams as if it's going to be quite slow moving, therefore giving your area time to heat up, and as the front approaches your area, it will cause significant updrafts. It's a waiting game but one i'm really looking forward to!

  5. That convection in west wales is actually visible from here. Looking at sat24, I am approx 40 miles directly east of the southern tip of the convection, would suggest mid level convection. Stratus and Altrostratus has steadily broken up here allowing this view over many miles. Note I am near the top of a valley and sit 390m asl

  6. i agree with weather 09, the potential for some significant thunderstorms to develop due to the cold front moving east. It looks like it's going to be fairly slow moving thus giving the potential for some large hail, maybe golf ball size, especially over the Welsh mountains on the Moors in South East England

  7. Afternoon all!

Well what a beautiful day, apart from the cloud that has kept a lid on things with me all day, but, just as hope almost at an all time low, darkness to my south, moving north over me atm, but hay, looking promising for mid wales! Just looked at GFS, what happened to Thursday! Was showing Cape of 2100, now dropped to low hundreds.

  8. Whats the difference between +CG ad -CG?

One has a +ve charge and the other a -ve charge. Often +CG are more damaging because they carry more amps and upto a billion volts and can appear red in colour, also are rare. Where -ve appear blue/white and are more common ( i think)! Please correct me if i am wrong

  9. that area of intense rain and occasional lightining yesterday just north of the cardiif area was amazing! Ventured out and got stuck in traffic for 2 hours due to the A470 being closed-flash flooding was something I have never experienced before. Anyway, what are todays prospects??

  10. To be fair though, I did hear a couple of rumbles of thunder this morning and lets face it, that pretty severe. So I don't think I missed out on the action today. :(

Think I might add an extra storm to my list in my signature. :(

Glad you got a storm today!

  11. This thread is for discussing any storms that are due,any storms that may also happen out of the blue, heavy rain and flooding, the odd rumble of thunder or sferics. The discussions on here seem to have changed some what.At least last year there was never any bickering !!

Must admit, my comment may have been uncalled for and I appologise
