FRI: Water Levels a Changing!

ECML-Route-Weather Watch

Welcome to my Blog, bringing you my weather observations through North East Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, North Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and into the City of York during my daily commute from Melton Mowbray, by car and train.

Friday 18th January 2008:

Water Levels a Changing!

This morning in Melton Mowbray it was windy and cloudy with light precipitation blowing in the wind. Similar conditions throughout the commute to Grantham by car and to York by train this morning. It feels very mild today, no need for the hat and scarf. The steam coming from the cooling towers at Eggborough Power station in North Yorkshire is giving way the winds direction, the plume of smoke stretched nicely across the train showing the wind's South Westerly direction.

A summary of flooding situation on the rivers I see from the train:

  • The River Trent is very high through Newark with the flood plains associated with the river through the Muskham area very full indeed.
  • The River Idle has flooded its flood plain through Bawtry with the land to the east of the railway underwater.
  • Ebeck near the village of Arksey has receded since yesterday.
  • The River Aire has receded near Templehirst with the water on the flood plain starting to vanish.
  • The River Wharfe through Ryther has also receded.

The Weekend; No commuting until Monday but it looks like a washout for the weekend.
