About This Group

A new place for those in the far north and northeast of England to chat about the weather and their daily lives.
  1. What's new in this group
  2. Chris Smith It ain't been too bad here. Definitely seen some sun. Even yesterday was quite bright with sun and clouds here driving back from Durham city to Chester le street. And we've seen a few similar days over the past 7 days. Definitely not been a washout but nothing seriously sunny either. I'd probably just call it average.
  3. Phil Blake You are the Norse god of Understatement and I claim my £5 Apart from a weak watery few minutes at lunchtime today, I haven't seen the sun once since last Wednesday - which is perilously close to a week ago. I thought there might be some compensatory convective fun today, but naturally it all avoided the Durham area.
  4. We may not have had wall to wall sunshine but at least it's been a bit dryer and milder recently. Looks like some half decent weather this week too
  5. It’s actually sleeting here at the moment. If any metric from the met shows this month above average here I honestly don’t know what data there using
  6. I'm royally fed up of this insipid weather on the north sea coast. Cool to cold, dull to dreary, damp to wet. It's even worse than this time last year, which I thought was about as poor as it could get.
  7. Snow-mad-dave Yes you are right, seems to be the way our weather is playing out these last few years. Can't seem to get a northerly or easterly in Dec/Jan/Feb but any amount after that, even the summer months we get plenty of them dragging in the grey wet drizzle from the sea.
  8. Gizzy if I remember last year was quite chilly right up until the end of May, looks like we are getting something similar, no sign of anything changing either during the next week or so.
  9. Anyone else thinking like me, seems to happens every year, gets to April / May and we get non stop N/E/NE winds, two months ago these would have brought a winter paradise. Don't want these winds now, give me a southerly now please. Sick of this rubbish weather.
  10. Phil Blake yes getting really annoying now. We haven't had one nice settled spring day here and its mid April! Absolutely hacked off seeing southerners out and about in their locale with no coats!
  11. Anyone else sick of rain? Surely there will be no sign of hosepipe bans this summer. Been dry today like but still lack of sun is depressing.
  12. Dusting of snow this morning and more expected this evening according to weather app. All gone now. As usual at least 3 types of weather in one day.
  13. I hope we are going to see some brightness soon. These endless days of dark damp cold dullness is getting rather depressing
  14. Anyone get some snow around Newcastle this morning?, was a nice looking clump passed over first thing this morning.
  15. Just heavy rain in Durham yesterday. But when I got back to my car at 11.30 last night it was covered in thick ice. Couldn't open doors. Luckily enough I managed to open my boot where the de-icer was.
  16. Really is kick in the teeth after such a long drawn out Winter but not complaining. D11 of falling about half of seasonal average for me, so March has some catching up
  17. Id rate it rather poor aswell. Although we did get 4 or 5cm early December which was nice. It's been a rather stormy winter and often mild/very mild. Very little frost although managed 4 days on the bounce last weekend beginning of this week but overall very poor. Probably a 3/10 from me
  18. So my winter score this year is a 3/10. Here in darlo we had about 5-6 days of laying snow early December with 4 days of falling snow during that period. We always do a little better in darlo than teesside for snow. The chase in mid January was horrendous it seemed to go on for ever and delivered next to nowt. February was beyond bad it's been horrendous Feb has barely delivered a frost. Feb was a 0/10 for me. So another poor winter is almost over and it must be said that we are increasingly struggling to get anything out of our warming climate. I really think we are going to be looking at more and more snowless winters as the years go by. Anyway guys see you all next November for more fruitless painful chases .
  19. Thought I'd give my rating for winter, I know March can deliver but I can't see it this year. It's a shocking 2 out of 10 I would even go as far as saying we have not even had a winter, every year it just feels like a extended autumn and then into spring.
