About This Group

A new place for those in the far north and northeast of England to chat about the weather and their daily lives.
  1. What's new in this group
  2. Today's rain avoiding the Pennines by coming straight up the A1! Great to see some proper rain at last.
  3. Yeah - it was a bit naff the past couple of days, though seems better now - it's showing the Pennine rain shadow in full effect. Is it me, or is the rain shadow more pronounced these days? The Pennines are still the same height presumably, give or take a mm here or there?
  4. Is there something up with the radar up here? Presentation has seemed a little off for the past few days.
  5. Yellow thunderstorm warning issued for NE England etc at around 9am this morning. Matrix shows high confident lower impact.
  6. For me here, every day in June after the 9th was above 20c. I don't know if that's "exceptional" but it certainly feels like it - a complete absence of North Sea haar type days when the max might be 12c; a very tropical feeling month.
  7. How is everybody doing with max temps this month? Today is the 15th consecutive day over 20 degC in Gilesgate, Durham. Mean max is 21.3 degC
  8. A very interesting day for the region coming up. If it goes bang then we're in for a treat! Good luck everyone!
  9. OK guys so looking at the severe storm forum and the data, suggests we may be on for a pretty interesting day on Sat with some serious storms starting to reach the forecast.
  10. Chris Smith Yep I absolutely love Dungeness and did consider the 6+ hour drive, I just hoped we might get something within reach with a 1-2 hour drive through the night but it wasn't to be. I do like some of the models for Friday and Saturday though, looks like a risk of isolated storms breaking out on Friday then a more general risk Saturday.
  11. multi cellular thunderstorm You needed to drive south and east for the best show. I recorded 1mm overnight. Woopy do.
  12. Couple of snapshots from the 00z ECM seems to show some proper fireworks for the South this evening, but becoming just a band of thundery rain by the time it reaches the Northeast, but even that would be something!
  13. Does anyone have much hope of storms reaching our area overnight tonight? I can't help but be excited and I'm planning an all-nighter and a possible drive out through the night, at the moment what I'm seeing suggests I might have to leave Durham area and either go to the coast to watch something potentially distant over the North Sea, or head west where conditions seem more favourable for home grown cells developing. Feels 50/50 to me whether we'll actually get anything good within reach of us, but after being starved last year I'm really desperate! What I'd do to be on the south coast tonight!
  14. Can anyone explain what this weird substance is that appears to be falling from the sky? It's some kind of clear liquid. If recent history didn't show this wasn't possible, i'd swear it was water.
  15. Penrith Snow Typical. I'm helping out at large Scouting event in Northumberland this weekend. I don't think it will be washout but if the rain had held off until Tuesday, I'd have been happier.
  16. Excellent morning runs, the uk becomes wet and unsettled while Spain and Portugal become hot and sunny. The equilibrium of the Universe is restored.
  17. It's been a really nice sunny, breezy day in Durham. That Pennine rain-shadow really helps mop up those showers on a Northwesterly.
  18. Snow this morning here. A lot of showers just to the north but appear to be fizzling quick. Shame as the temperatures will rise later and no doubt will be rain!
  19. geordiekev was around Lanchester this morning and it was light snow, surprised to be honest.
