Ralphs Cross
This stone cross is 'relatively' new, but there was a wooden cross on the site previously.
About 200 metres to the west is a true medieval guide cross known as Old Ralph.
The principal reason for the numerous stone crosses was to guide and reassure travelers.
To this day it can be slightly worrying and difficult to keep your bearings in dark or foggy conditions as there are so few identifiable landmarks for many miles.
