  1. Sunshine and showers here too. The temperature rose up to 21c at 12.35 after what was a dry and sunny morning but a rash of showers followed but it has since dried up. I had a bike ride to the banks of the humber and saw some particularly heavy showers and lightning to the west over Hull. Was great to view from a distance... until i had to seek refuge in a nearby phone box as i didnt really set out prepared for rain

  2. Indeed, its a suprisingly warm day. Currently 23.5C...

...and 26.7C apparently in Bilton <_<

I think its definitely the sunshine affecting your temperatures Lewis. At 13:00 Leconfield was the warmest station in the region at 22.2C.

The maximum over here in Keyingham was 24.1c which makes sense as Humberside was recording the highest in the country at 16:00 of 25C

  3. Me too. That's why I don't like summer. Nowt worse than being stuck indoors all day when it's bright and sunny outside  In winter I can go out and enjoy it.

Well only for 2/7 days of the week and even at weekends its dark before teatime so theres a very small window of daylight when you can actually go outside. Thats why i find winters so grim and depressing. In the summer if you do hate the heat just wait till the evening for a good 4 hours of more pleasant weather.

  4. as is often the case some have a half full glass some a half empty one. In this of course I exclude the people down the east coast who have had, I would imagine for this time of year, for some at any rate, one of the longest periods of haar etc for quite some time.

Here, yep that N Sea mistiness etc was a bit of a pain over several days but otherwise its been around 2 weeks of temperatures every day above 21C, the normal is about 19-20C for this area, no rain until today, so for me here a pleasant spell of summer.

Its actually been very nice here over the past 2 weeks and i only live 10 miles from the east coast. There have been some cool cloudy days mixed in with warmer sunnier ones but the emphasis has been on a lot of dry 'useable' weather as apposed to the frequent showers that have characterised the last 2 summers. We didnt get the heat that other parts have experienced though, until today when it reached 24.1c.

  5. Certainly it's easier to warm up in winter (compared to cooling in summer) if you sit in a heated room - but than you suffer dry throat & drowsiness instead (well I do anyway!). Even still - when you come in all cold, you've still got to wait for the heater to do its work before it's warm (1-2 hours in my house on coldest days). Same goes in summer - come in all hot, take off your clothes then sit still for 10 mins and you're ok again.

I prefer not to have to 'hide' from the weather in order to cope with it. In summer (mostly) you can wear the same things in & out and often temps inside & out are very similar. It's almost like indoors & outdoors are as one. In winter it's all about sealing the outside world out of your protective shield (be that a big coat, or a dry heated house) and that's the crux of why I'm a summer fan - I like the sights, smells & feel of outdoors.

I agree with you there Bottesford. I'd much rather be oustide enjoying the weather than be stuck inside cucooned against it. In winter i can go weeks on end where i dont set foot outside in the garden due to the combination of it being freezing cold, muddy and the garden lacking any interest. Whereas in summer, even if it may be too hot to do strenuous excercise or play sports outside, the weather still entices you outside to enjoy all the colour and scents on offer. Similiarily in our city centres i love seeing everyone sitting outside eating and socialising as it brings such a feel good factor to the place as opposed to winter where everyones sole purpose seems to be just to do the necessary shopping and go home. I always find our city centres look far less attractive in the winter with everything being wet, the low sunshine making everwhere look dark and everyone looking glum and depressed.

Having said that, given i play a lot of sport i'm not a huge fan of the heat but it would still rank above winter cold for the sole reason that you can do very little outside in winter without freezing to death like waiting for a bus or cycling. Enjoying the outdoors in winter is pretty limited anyway. The normal working week means that you dont see the daylight except at weekends due to the short days and when you do venture out on a walk in the countryside you are forever dodging the puddles or coming back caked in mud, which i doubt anyone would find very pleasant.
