Hmm ... makes you wonder if anybody really has a clue in the met office ivory towers .... last week was just as bad as this and at the time I was under a met office red alert ... today im under a yellow alert for snow and none whatsoever for wind .... pfft.

Its being quite mental enough for me right now and I wouldnt be disappointed if it stopped . 62mph gusts in Prestwick right now and im 190m asl above it .. jeepers.

No wind warnings anywhere in the UK until Thursday and yet their maps have 66mph gusts forecast for me later today. Does not compute.

The met office do not seem to be playing a blinder so far....

Sorry I was being facetious .. But Id think we should have at least a yellow warning about wind. This storm looks worse than last weeks storm for certain areas up here but still no warnings. Rush hour in Glasgow tomorrow evening could be dicey. Theres a warning for snow but not for wind ... hmm so as far as our illustrious meteorological leaders are concerned its ok to go hang gliding tomorrow in glasgow. Edit : OK they do mention wind in their snow warning but not the best imho.

Ive never seen the forecasts/warnings in such a mess. As things stand on the met office website we (Ayrshire) will have the highest windspeeds and gusts in the UK for storm 1 tomorrow afternoon and evening .. BUT .. we dont even have a yellow warning for wind whilst all of the west of the UK south of us from Cumbria to Lands End and up to Kent does???

Id bet if you tell anybody in here that theyre going to get sustained 82mph wind right over their own house as was forecast yesterday for ronaldsway then they will stop liking the wind rather quickly. Prob is sometimes that people outside the area expected to be damaged seem to be up for the most enormous storms but NIMBY. My back yard gets hit more than most id say and I come here to keep informed about things that fill me with dread if they do fall into place in my back yard. Personally I dont have a problem with the folk who express disappointment when a storm is downgraded ( they are usually quite young in the main ) but I will say that im sure they would stop liking extreme wind if it came to their doorstep as was on the cards yesterday for IOM. Having "skin in the game" as it were, can have an interesting effect on ones own point of view.

I once saw her doing the sky news ski report and she pronounced pistes as pis s tees . She so obvioulsy didnt have a clue what a piste was. Bless.

This thing just wont go away. It started getting really bad at 10am this morning and its still going strong with Prestwick seeing sustained 47mph and crazy window bending gusts hitting my house every 20 mins or so. Getting fed up with it now!

These types of equipment use hardly any power. Its almost like using a couple or three laptops. Even the transmission equipment will be very low power. Im wondering if its Inmarsat or Iridium or the like. Usually when vehicles get mods for mobile comms they get mods to their batteries and alternators too but itd be no greater power draw than the headlights.

Probly all charges from his vehicle. Anybody know what his comm link is?
