  1. What do you mean TEITS? Do you mean the GFS? What is remarkable about this? Forgive me, I'm fairly new to reading models. This is GFS + 168
  2. I believe the end is nigh, at least for Ireland. We had light sleet earlier. There is a distinct thaw in Dublin today, all of last night's top-up isn't noticeable anymore. Temp is + 3 C. Met Eireann is saying that there will be a gradual thaw from today with a significant thaw from Friday onwards. The cold spell is coming to an end.
  3. You could always use Belfast international airport! The shower activity seems to have quietened down for now. Temp is 0 C. Hopefully tomorrow's snow will come!
  4. The showers just keep coming and coming off the Irish Sea right over Dublin! It was pelting earlier!
  5. Ah, that's unlucky. Where I am there is no thaw tonight; it's -1C I'm very happy to say! It's been very showery this evening with another 3 - 4 cms added to the already lying snow!!!
  6. There is a slight thaw in the sunshine where I am. Temp has risen to + 1.5 C :) We just had a short hail/graupel shower there. Snow is visibly melting on top of my bins. It probably won't rise much more though and will go down again somewhat after dark. I expect some snow for Sun night and Monday (maybe sleety snow) but beyond that (Tuesday, for example) I see any snow being very marginal, especially at lower levels anywhere near south and east coasts, where sleet or even rain is a real possibility.
  7. Seriously? It's -1.5C where I am and it's falling as just snow, albeit light.
  8. Where I am, it's very light. But at least it's sticking to already lying snow.
  9. Rum & Coke is one of my favourite tipples!! Especially nice in this weather! Temp here in Dublin is now -7C and falling. It was misty earlier but now clearer. Temps never rose above freezing all day! We got about 1cm of snow from a rogue shower this morning to top up already lying snow!
  10. True...but by day this could mean temps of +3 or +4 (which even Netweather is forecasting) for the east of Ireland. This would mean sleet or even rain and a partial thaw.
  11. Thanks Paul for your fair response. I didn't know about the 'report button' you mention in number 1, as I am fairly new here. Thanks for all your hard work.
  12. Well I'll use pm next time. Thanks. I don't see any problem in putting this in public, personally. It's just a query at the end of the day. And it might help others if they were wondering the same thing. I wasn't quite sure who to pm about it and I wasn't going to bother Paul with this kind of minor query. Well, I put it in the Ireland thread myself but I know you would have moved it there. That's fine but I felt it had a wider general discussion merit. It is more relevant than some other posts I've seen in there. But anyway. Whatever. And I know it's very busy and I don't doubt Paul's or anyone else's sterling work. Thanks for it, by the way.
  13. Do the models support a milder breakdown from the southwest? Will the south of Ireland and the southwest of England see some milder weather creep in on Monday and Tuesday?
  14. But it's completely inconsistent! I can quote lots of other posts in that very same thread which have NOTHING to do with the models. I could quote some here but don't wish to offend other posters concerned. Just have a look at the last few pages even. In the thread, I wasn't asking whether it will snow in x or is the forecast right. I was asking whether the models are showing a mild breakdown in other people's opinions. I think that was relevant.
  15. I'm curious to know why this following post was deemed worthy of deletion from the 'general model thread'? I had to repost it in the Ireland thread. But I don't think it should have to be solely in the Ireland thread as it's pointing at a more general view in terms of the models and the onset of a possible mild attack from the south or southwest. I want to know who deleted it. The moderation of the forum is inconsistent and questionable, considering lots of other posts of a similar nature are not removed. Here was the 'offending' post: Hi everyone, The Irish forecasters are predicting that it will become somewhat milder in the south and east of Ireland next Monday. I'm just wondering what would be causing this and are the models supporting this theory? This is their current outlook for Ireland: On Friday night, occasional snow showers will persist in eastern coastal counties but the rest of the country will be dry with clear spells; severe or very severe ground frost will occur, along with widespread ice and some freezing fog patches. Eastern coastal counties will have further wintry showers during Saturday, many of them falling as snow inland from the Irish Sea. Other areas will be dry with sunny spells but extensive frost and ice will persist, together with local fog; winds will be light to moderate, northeasterly. Saturday night will see little change in wind or shower distribution but widespread severe or very severe ground frost will return; ice and freezing fog patches will be an ongoing problem. The overall northeasterly airflow will persist on Sunday, with fresher breezes near some exposed coasts; occasional light showers of a wintry nature will continue to affect eastern coastal counties and perhaps part of the north coast also. Some thawing of lying snow and ice may occur in eastern areas during the daytime but most places will remain bitterly cold and ice-bound. Wintry showers will persist overnight in eastern counties, with snow accumulating again in places; longer outbreaks of rain, sleet and perhaps snow will develop in coastal counties of the south also as freshening, easterly winds set in generally. This precipitation distribution will persist through Monday also, with areas other than the east and south staying mainly dry and bright. Despite a slight rise in temperatures, it will feel still feel bitterly cold in the fresh, easterly wind.
  16. I don't see it taking off, to be honest. I went in there and it was like a morgue. I won't be bothering with it! But good idea to try it out.

  18. Friends living in the centre and north/northeast of the city heard the thunder and saw the lightning. I didn't though. Not sure if it's because I just missed it indoors or that it is because of my location in the far northwest suburbs.
  19. It's off-topic and I'm sorry, but I understand Scot's Gaelic as I speak fluent Irish Gaelic (Gaeilge)! They're similar. Hope you're all enjoying your snow in wee bonnie Scotland!!
  20. Ok, it got heavier since and has now stuck on cars, etc! Wonder if we'll get much more today?
  21. I know! Geographically, it's not that far way, yet it could be a different continent in terms of snow! Not fair!! It's currently +1C in Dublin at the moment and wet snow falling now in NW Dublin. Had a shower of graupel earlier. The showers I've got today have all been on the light side. It's not even fully sticking. The cars aren't really getting a covering or anything. The cold spell is very tame here when compared with England!
  22. From a perspective of Britain but not Ireland. No part of Ireland has got much snow. Ireland is getting off lightly indeed. It's bitterly cold but that's it.
  23. It's -2 C at the moment in Dublin. It's truly bitterly cold - I was out walking earlier without a hat and my ears are numb. I'd be surprised if anything other than snow fell. Let's hope it doesn't just stay dry though! By the way, friends of mine who live in south Dublin have just told me it's snowing there. It's dry here in northwest Dublin where I am though.
