  1. It's showing up nicely on radar - some very intense colours. It just appeared right out of the blue over North Staffordshire. We're not done just yet.
  2. Lashing down with no thunder or lightning. I got lucky with that big storm last August, but 2012 has so far been a bum year for thunderstorms.
  3. Big dark clouds moving in from the east. Looking at the radar though, it looks like the Pennines have taken the oomph out of the heaviest downpours (fewer bright colours).
  4. Much better day than expected, with a lot of sunshine this evening. Warm and humid. Tomorrow though Summer 2012 reverts to type...
  5. According to http://www.kuwait.climatemps.com/, relative humidity in Kuwait City averages between 40% and 50% during the summer months. High humidity can occur there, but it's unusual.
  6. Humidity in summer is generally low in both locations, especially Baghdad. Not that the ridiculously high temperatures don't more than make up for it. Dubai on the other hand...
  7. During June I took comfort in the fact that at the very least July surely wouldn't seem as bad in comparison. So much for that. The outlook just gets worse and worse, and yet another Friday is set to be ruined for many of us by a slow-moving front. A word has yet to be invented to describe just how bad this summer is so far shaping up. Now excuse me while I go and throw up somewhere.
  8. Dispiriting isn't it? I've always adhered to the maxim that the longer a weather pattern lasts, the more likely it is to break. No such luck here. It's almost as though half-decent weather in summer isn't allowed any more. A settled spring? You'll have to pay for it with an unsettled summer. An unsettled spring? Erm, you'll get an unsettled summer anyway! I'm dreading a mild winter.
  9. So that's Woodford closed for good? It's strange how suddenly this has transpired. Even moving to a nearby site can play havoc with the continuous records of the area, due to possible microclimates. Does anyone know if Rostherne is in a frost hollow?
  10. Not to mention the fact that a 14C May would almost certainly have a lot of hot and sunny weather, whereas a 14C July would struggle to give us any warmth at all.
  11. Sounds wonderful. Lovely sunrises and sunsets every day and no need to worry about events getting ruined by incessant rain.
  12. Blimey, it looks like I've dodged the bullet today. Still thoroughly miserable of course, but was expecting my area to get the brunt of it. I see the Olympic flame was extinguished by the rain in Blackpool.
  13. But by the same token it has almost total daylight in June.
  14. Exactly. When June has been as exceptionally dull and wet as this one, having mean temperatures not as exceptionally low is of little comfort. To be honest, with hindsight I'd have scrapped the late May warm spell in exchange for a reasonably dry and sunny June. This has way gone way past cancelling out that spell of weather for me.
  15. Well June 2012 is back to "normal" again here. And tomorrow is looking nightmarishly awful.
  16. I can only recall one thunderstorm which has ever disturbed my slumber (September 1995), but then I'm not an easy person to wake up anyway.
  17. Wow, a day which actually felt June-like! Yes, it even exceeded 20C. Of course having a few non-terrible days in a row inevitably means we're about to get "punished" by yet more revolting anti-summer, probably another several weeks' worth.
  18. Just when I'd stopped getting sick of hearing the name "James Madden"...
  19. I witnessed something like this in Majorca in 1997 - distant lightning providing a nice display but with no thunder audible. I expected to have at least heard faint rumbles by listening closely, but no. Much more common in my experience is hearing thunder but seeing no lightning. I assume when this happens the bolt occurs far enough inside the cloud to be sufficiently obscured.
