In terms of the downwelling of the SSW I don't see how they can definitely know at this stage what impact that will have at this range.
IMO its just not worth reading too much into those updates especially when they haven't even seen the latest ECM update.
Its just a cover all bases forecast, I mean not far from the seasonal norm means exactly what. Why not just say temps close to average.
They must have had a stonrg signal for cold and that has reduced and therefore gone for the middle ground. I would agree with regards SSW and would be more how they see the upper air pattern at that time. If it changed back, most of ther population would not notice. Its only us that hang on every word.

Looking at most of data I can get hold off. I still think Bath area will be the hot spot.

Exactly .... It has moved everything south , It goes on to show some Snow for cornwall later in the day , but this probably falling as rain ... It's the Somerset /Bristol stalling situation that seems to be losing support , and any further Southward shift today and the whole area could miss ... Looking forward to 6z data , hope it improves things a tad .
Possibly but a correction slightly further North and game on for many. Prefer NAE at this range tho.

I have the '30' bit over me!!!
Lets hope that our area gets plenty. I think your area is good. Down here it will be more of a sleety mess but fri was great so this would be a bonus if we saw some fall. Still much to be agreed on. The latest three NAE runs have changed quite alot.
Ice Berg will be enjoying the latest NAE and hoping it stays similar.
-
NAE has moved everything a bit further South. Much to be decided dut someone will get a decent fall going in to Tuesday morning but who?

The big 3 having a similar trend this morning and we can all go back to our normal hobby of chasing cold 5 plus days away from Sat. Though it is not mild, just not as cold. Benign is not a word you would use to describe the period after sat if the output is to be believed. This week is not without interest with further places seeing snow fall and some heavy in places. It has been nice to have a break from the norm of chasing cold in the longer term and having it in the here and now.
So from sat we can go cold hunting, Short Wave dodging and hope GP Met and co are correct in their assessment that Feb will bring some more cold to the here and now.

For the north east maybe, that chart does not show any more snow over the bulk of the country as what is does at +0z
Sussex, Kent, Hampshire etc

Much can change but this looks like being an interesting 48 hrs or so.

10 out 10 to the PPN here. So trying to go back to snow from rain. Come on you can do it!!!!!!!!
Update, it made it!!!!!! SOOOOOOOO proud!!!!!
-
Raining, got to wait till 6 in the morning for the wind to swing ene.
-
Snow is melting faster than its settling. Snowing hard, snow level dropping!!
-
The 6-15 day update on the meto site hasn't updated yet. Whats keeping them, not a busy day surely.
-
I live very close to the sea and its still snowing. I would say that it is melting from the bottom quicker than it settling on the top.
-
Is there anything significant in the offing for us in the near term?
Next 72 cold but not much more in the way of snow down here i would suggest but I think the output is struggling longer term and I don't see it going the way the GFS is showing at the moment.
-
Time to have a proper look at the charts and see whats going on for next few days, not had a look yet!
I have and there is alot of differences past t96. GFS 06z has moved abit nearer to ECM which for the 06 is good news. 12z's may give us a better idea this evening.

You can make snow balls and throw them in the sea in mudeford
-
Heaviest it has been all day here at the moment.

Just shows how marginal it is. Ferndown snow till 9. Bournemouth, rain at 3.

This has to be the worst winter I can remember, absolutely hideous. I am so fed up with this rain and then to top it off whilst running from the house to my office in the garden, I went Ar*e over you know what and got covered in mud. Then you look at the output to see ball after ball of wind and rain heading our way. I love the cold and snow but would happily take dry and surprisingly warm. It must be bad, can not believe I have just said warm in FEB!!!
