snow drift

Rain falling on ice. Very danderous. We have a gravel drive. It now smooth with ice.

Freezing rain has coated everything with a 2mm layer of ice. Roads are awful. Not surprised there are so many accidents and road closures.

As a boy in the North cotswolds i was told by many a farmer that when snow sat in little hollows and on north facing slopes, after a slow thaw that had been over a few days, that it was "waiting for more". The point being that cold is difficult to shift once it has been in place for a while. This looks like a similar situation. 25 years ago we would have expected to have got another cold spell. Over recent winters we have got used to mild and on the whole uneventfull winters. The models certainly would suggest that the cold air is never to far away and indeed Scotland may not lose it at all. I would add that although i have looked at this thread for many years and my ability to evaluate what may happen is improving, i am in awe how some on here are able to spot trends that could happen that are more than aweek away. That is why i love this thread, not because i want to know what will happen in the next 24 hours but what will happen down the line. If it is not correct then i will never get fustrated and ask why it never snowed in my back garden.

It has rained here since 11.00. Now hard an sleety with flakes mixed in. half a mile fron the sea. Some will get snow when they have given up hope I reckon.

Here Here! Just been watching snow senes from westminster. On a serious note, the roads are going to be very Dangerous. Driving on ice is far more dangerous than Snow.

It has been raining hard down here since 11.00 and it is raining harder now than at any other time today. I thought this would be dieing out by now. Some places are going to get loads of snow.

If you are getting the PPN we have had since 11.00 this morning then you will get loads. It has rained hard for 3 and half hours and is still raining hard now.

Still raining here so if stays as snow you may get quite a bit.

The cotswold will, I think, get some good ammounts on tuesday. The low moving up from the south would give decent totals. The question is whether it gets that far before going north east.

The low moving up from the south on tues looks very interesting. Down here it will prob be rain but not to far north it should be snow. This low then looks like moving North east which could well bring warmer air from the south west. But as said before much to be decided and cold not to far away.

Fantastic pictures. You lucky peolpe. Down here in Bournemouth winter has started, just phoned golf course and they tell me that they are on summer greens and tees but it is a bit chilly so you may want to put a jumper on!

Some of your posts have made me laugh. Unfortunately you have read some posts seen what you have wanted to see and took everything literaly. Not sure how long you have viewed this site but I can tell you that over the last seven years I have seen many go through what you are going through now. View the threads and get a theme. Do not get drawn in by the snowfest in 5 days time posts as this will result in what you are now experincing. This is a good site that will give you an indication of what may happen in the future but as I said detail such as ppn should be looked at upto t 24 and no longer I would suggest.

Spot on. The other problem is that too many people on the site look and see what they want to see. Any analysis that talks up snow potential and uses the words SNOWFEST, PROLONGED, HEAVY ETC in areas where this actualy is unlikey are left for people to read and increase their hopes. Any analysis thats says the oposite are attacked and rubbished. However, you are better placed than I to see snow. Down here it as rare as hens teeth. Thankfully I visit the North Cotswolds on a regular basis and this area gets snow. i
