light sleet/snow in Shotley (105m) with bits of hail, dusting on all surfaces now filling in bare patches. Sky has a 'typical' look of a NE flow about it. fingers crossed for some more developed convective activity as the day moves on and the front stays to the south of us.

anyone seen a gritter tonight?.-3 and not a one in sight.
yeah but thats north-west Durham for you, abandoned every time. driving back from Teesdale earlier temps dropped to -6C already on the car in the hollows and valleys, roads covered in ice, no gritter or ploughs anywhere

around 1-2cm of fresh snow, albeit wet, in Consett. All roads etc completely covered again. A drop of 50m however resulted in rain. very marginal, and a very abrupt freezing level.
should be some good fresh powder over the hills now.

Snowing a bit heavier now and starting to settle.
Just been for a run:
Consett (275m) snowing and settling
Medomsley Edge (235m) snowing and misty (possibly the 0C air temp level) and settling
Shotley Station (185m) sleety wet snow settling locally
Shotley Bridge (105m) rain/sleet.
freezin level seemed to be slightly lowering over the past hour or so.

ive just spoken to my parents who live 20 miles west of newcastle, 170m ASL and they say that they are getting some heavy snow shows. whiteout conditions and fog... i'm going out soon for xmas so that should be fun.
Now snowing steadily again in Shotley Bridge (375ft) after a 2 hour slight thaw with drizzle. Temp dropped to 0.5C from 1.5C

Need the easterlies to pick up somewhat, forecasts show them to be too slack right now to bring anything other than rain or sleet off the still warm (relativley) North Sea. Should see some good falls inland though through the dales. Need a good NE'ly gale

Very heavy hail and sleet with some snow and thunder during the night, only a small amount new snow lying in Shotley.
