  1. Been snowing here now none stop since before 9am. So far about 2 centemeters of new snow, which is surprising considering the snow is getting to us then dying off just as it gets into Lancashire.

Not posted since Christmas, but our 'Snow' that fell 2/3 weeks ago still exists in clumps on South facing slopes. Combined with the snow from last night which has also turned into ice as well and we have one hell of a dangerous area to get around in. Going to be a fun week if the tempreture keeps going to about -10 each night and turning the snow to blocks of ice each night.

  2. Had flurries of snow on and off for past hour or 2, but now its starting to come down heavy.

This appears to be a lot further north than was expected, as wasn't expecting the snow to start here until late today. According to the Radar the main band is almost at Sheffield already. Just hope whose ever in charge of the gritters in the Pennine areas of Yorkshire are on the ball and notice.

  3. Bet the pennines are still stuck in deep deep snow??

    Not here they aren't.

The thaw is coming in full force. Still snow on roof tops, but that will probably be gone by the days end. At ground level its now compressed and only about 10-15 cm's deep, would take a week to shift it though at these temps, barring heavy rain. So we should still have a inch or two of snow left when the cold resumes.

  4. North Yorkshire now has a weather warning, for Icy roads after snow showers, there hasn't been any snow yet in North Yorkshire so something must be happening for them to put out a warning.

"Showers of sleet and snow will continue to affect northwestern England, as well as northern parts of both Cheshire and Derbyshire and western parts of Yorkshire. The ground temperature will be below freezing for much of the time, especially during the night and early on Wednesday morning, and this will lead to the formation of ice on untreated surfaces in many areas.

The public are advised to take extra care and refer to the 'Highways Agency' for further advice on traffic conditions on motorways and trunk roads."

Nah its probably just the Met remembering that Skipton is in North Yorkshire - where its been snowing on and off for most of the day :)

  5. i am off up to near Skipton tomorrow - how much snow is there on the hills?

Round where we are (about 5 miles SSW of Skipton) its about 20cm deep at the moment. But we are high up, about 250m ASL, but there are higher around e.g. the Moors which are half a mile away are above 400m ASL and there it will be well over a foot deep I imagine.

I know Skipton itself has had some heavy snow, but as to its levels I don't know.

  6. Well so far today I'd say the Dales has had the heaviest most prolonged snow, a shame no-one's posting from that area as I'd be intrigued to know what it's like around Malham and up towards Hawes at the moment

I live a few miles south of Skipton in the Pennines (about 250m-300m ASL) and we have had on/off snow all Morning, none of its settled though here. A relative of mine took a trip near Malham this morning and they turned around, the snow had started to settle and conditions were getting bad - but then again they hate driving in the snow so it could just been only minor.
