  1. Some of you in Fife must be getting snow just now??
  2. Fab news!!! We have just had our first shower of this run of winds and it fell as fluffy snow. Temp is 1.5 but still snow. More on the radar heading for Fife/Angus
  3. How are surface temps and uppers looking do you think?? BBC news 24, 1600 forecast ended by saying " area of snow will/may move into NE England and E Scotland on New Years Eve"
  4. Even though the air temps are just above 0 at the moment down the east coast, are the uppers not around -7, thus should still be OK for snow???
  5. Thankyou LS. I have been out tonight, so my head is slightly fuzzy , but this is what I needed to read to avoid trying to trawl through charts and forecasts ect!!! Sounds good and I am now going to bed as there are going to be some late nights this week snow watching.
  6. One other question that puzzles me (being new here). Which of the runs is usually best? I guess that once within 20-24 hours the usually become similar, but looking out a few days who has the best track record?
  7. Expected wind direction???...........This can have quite a bearing on the main event aswell. East or ENE transits land here and I may just get away with it, but just to the south of east, its off the sea......could miss out. However the rest of the run looks so good, we will all have snow later I am sure.
  8. I see you are part of the "moderating team" on here. Excuse my ignorance but are you part of NW?? Perhaps a ranked officer patrolling this thread?? Glad all is still cold in your area to and here is to lots more smow!!!
  9. Basically, it suggests that the weather will be cold, (sometimes very cold), enough for snow in all parts of Scotland from Tuesday/Wednesday onwards. As mentioned above, the precipitation is not forecastable more that 24-48 hours out, so this will take care of itself, probaly in the form of showers generated by cold air blowing over the relitivley "warm" sea. The wind seems to generally be out the east and round to the north, so all aeras are likely to be exposed to the showers at some point. Much beond maybe 5 days again is a bit of a lottery even with wind direction, but the models at the moment suggest the wind continues from very cold sources throughout.(this will always change to some degree) I am new to this aswell, but hope this helps a little
  10. Morning all. Everything is frozen solid this morning What a 00z run...............2 weeks of east / north east winds and really cold uppers
  11. And this is much more fun, as we talk about snow and its forecasting morning, noon, and night Well I am off for early night as no radar watching to be done tonight thankfully. Need to recharge the batteries ahead of phase 2 and then may not be lucky enough to have a break before the "possible" 3rd phase.
  12. And if we are really good, "the two weeks after tomorrow"
  13. Would such uppers (-6 - -7)ensure snow to all levels even with the wind off the North Sea do you think? Do you have any idea if there has ever been a snow event from the east with uppers below -10?
  14. I know its a long long way off.........but hands up if the 3rd easterly blast about 10 days from now is your favourite to look at !!!!!
  15. Missed it........what were they saying?? And suddenly the snow in tomorrow's has vanished from the EBC forecast
  16. Its amazing..........and there is more forecast........be interesting to see how deep some locations get by the end of next week!
  17. Hasn't really effected the snow cover, guess its so solid from yesterday. MO/ Beeb forecast looks good for tomorrow.
  18. I thjink we both have the same problem The wind has now swung round and coming off the sea plus "mild" uppers. Your -9 was a surface temp, very low because yesterday the wind was west (no warming effect from the sea) and snow covered mainland Scotland is very cold. Thing look set to improve in a couple of days!! Also remember that we are presntly in a "mild" spell I dont know what fell here last night but we have a couple of cms of solid ice/snow on the roads and the cars!!
  19. Beeb and MO atre going for another "significant" snow event tomorrow crossing from the west. Any toughts on this? Unfortunatley we have now turned to rain, but good to hear some areas got a good fall last night.
  20. Did you manage a foot? ARe you in Perth itself or outlying area?
  21. Temps still good??? It wont be long. Interesting, this band is moving NE, but is thought to move back SE to the North sea later, which may mean it stalls slightly, hopefully giving good falls before doing so.
  22. Seems to be turning to rain in alot of places. I take this is due to marginal uppers.
  23. Its moving really quick to the NE and much bigger and more intense than the one this afternoon. Appears to be growing
