I see Monday to Wednesday as solid chase days now - make the most of this down time as we will be busy !!
-
Actually today was a great chase day - I saw three tornados around Memphis A muti vortex, a VERY strong cone as well as a nice Elephant trunk which at one stage was less than 1/4 mile from my location - given my "bust" in Kansas yesterday I was glad of some tornadic action today - I will post up some video tomorrow - some of it is really good.

As an aside, I have run with an Alltel Laptop DataCard (along with a data amp and an external antenna) and find that the internet conenction is actually quite good.
What I have found out over the years is that a Sprit Card seem better (more cell towers) over texas and New Mexico - while Alltel seems better from Kansas North. However I often find my self in the "Data hole" that is Western Oklahoma which seems to have no internet coverage (it is actually quite remote). So a good back up is a Baron system.
As a backup for data - Most of the hotels now have free WiFi internet which spills out onto there carpark...
And finally dont forget the libarys (closed on Sundays) most have a free internet connected PC that you can use.

Just a word of warning - The US cell phone network does not support 3G - you need an EVDO or a CDMA network card for your laptop
One option is just to rent one from this store in London

Personally I would not chase without one.

Last I heard was the the Net-Wx team were down in Ada, Oklahoma. Which is about 70 miles South East of Oklahoma City.

You bet it was an experiance - shame that she came through at night - I shot almost zero video as it was just too dark - the power flashes from the failing power grid exploding were interesting to see.
Oh well lets hope that the next one is a day time intercept.

I made the BBC's Web site - hsmae that they did not correct the spelling or the facts

I captured this brief tornado just West of north Platte, Nebraska on May 17th. this was a simple chase as far as forecasting goes in that we just followed the tripple point on radar ~ and waited for a cell to form on it.
I was shooting video at the time and this image was just grabbed from the Canon 10D in a spare moment. Video shows a funnel some 1/2 way to the groun on video ~ in fact our video was featured on the USA weather channel news !!!

This was the end result from a 850 mile drive to the remote area of North West South Dekota (what a mouthful) om May 20th 2005.
The cell did actually spin up a weak vortex but I could not see any direct conection to the upddaft so I am not adding this to my total tornado count (18 so far)
Overall I will take storm structure over a torando any day ~ unless it is a big wedge <_<
enjoy

plus I am seeing a decent return of moisture this morning up through TX which is very good news. Can also see a great dryline setting up already - this is looking promising.

Good luck guys I'm there in Oklahoma with Tempest on may 15th for 2 weeks, bring it on.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Long range GFS sugests that starting this weekend there will be an active tornado pattern that will first peak mid next week with further tornado predicted for alt least a week further on. It looks like you have picked a good tour time wise with tempest - as for me I am bring me shase plans forward to start this Tuesday and on Friday I start a driving job with silverlining tours until the 23rd May
I realy do feel that next week and onwards will be the main show this May.

The May 3rd event was widely reported by the media as many live images and reports were broadcast to the public. This I am sure saved many lives as the public were made warned of the event as it unfolded.
2004 marks the 50 year anniversary of the London 1954 8th December T8 (F4) tornado which claimed 13 lives. There was no live severe weather broadcasts at the time and the public was generally unaware.
If such an event was to occur today in London or Paris how do you feel that the European broadcasters would cope with the rapid transmission of live and genuinely informative information– the UK for example does not have access to a Doppler radar feed.

Monday (as things stand right now) looks to be Extreame SW Kansas or possible up slope into S.E. Colorado - as things stand I am quite bullish about Monday.
