  1. Noticed the weather for the week ahead on Country Tracks was very interesting this morning......firstly Tomas Schaffernaker was introducing it and someone spelt his name wrong....it said Tomas Shareaknacker...I think someone at the Beeb was have a bit of fun...

anyway, Wales didn't seem to get much in the way of snow next week but neverltheless the temperatures are certainly going to plummet from Monday night and thats when all the fun beigns.....hopefully some snow for Wales into Tuesday and by saturday next week we could all be blanketted ......Tomas did say that some would get about 4 inches ( showed this in a hand gesture ) and other would get this much ( the hand gesture was about a foot and a half !!)

Going to be a really interesting week...I cannot be more stocked up, got quadruple everything stocked up....

I love the winter.I love the snow and I love the excitement waiting for it to happen...shame its now a proper annual event...hey, maybe it will be one day

  2. It's 3C here in Cwmbran Se Wales and the sun is shining but it's a very cold wind.

Looking at the charts and maps and everything else I've been looking at there's a chance of another Irish Sea streamer coming in later. Maybe I'm wrong but with amateur untrained experienced eye I can it coming off. Hope it does. If so, I think it may hit the coast around Newquay area and then head off in the direction of Monmouthshire....

Something to keep an eye on anyway.....you just don't know whats going to happen when the weather is like this...its a forecasting nightmare but the streamers are what interest me as they can quickly develop at such short notice and dump serious amounts of snow in such a short time leaving everyone dumbstruck !!....including the Met Office.

Hope nyou all got what you want for Christmas and hope you all get what i wan for the New Year and thats SNOW !

  3. Nice to see/hear that the areas now getting the snow are the areas that missed out last time when everywhere else got a pile. The moon is out here in Cwmbran, -1.2C and very cold, wind picked up a little but don't think we'll see anything like a cm of snow overnight, possibly a slight dusting blowing about in the wind....

great to hear its snowing in Wales anyway

  4. Yes, but to be fair they did forecast between 10 and 30cms of snow yesterday too!! whistling.gif

many places got that amount of snow....where have you been ?

2.4C here in Cwmbran 100m asl has been on and off drizzling all day.

Took a drive up the mountain an hour ago and theres a big thaw on....water rapidly washing down the roads....trees dumping large wet lumps of snow....

looking at the snow levels up there I reckon 6 inches yesterday probably fell during yesterday. The previous snow had already melted so all in all a very good covering.....

  5. Had about 2 - 3 inches of snow here and its been drizzling now for a few hours. It aint shifting it because its only 0.9C still.

it was good to hear the weather warnings....basically for those less able than many of us ie the elderly, at least they can stay in and not get caught out, slip outside, end up with a broken hip, spend 6 weeks in hospital, 4 weeks in respite and the rest of their life with more arthritis and worry.

Ebbw Vale has had 6 inches of snow....Powys, it' still snowing, and there's a good possibilty that some of the places which had snow today and now raining or drizzling will have another 2 or 3 hour spell of snow tomorrow as the front turns around and comes back south.

Well done to the Met Office for putting out warnings this time, they have failed recently but they've certainly given the councils a chance to grit the roads just in case. All our major routes here are passabke with careful driving and its only because the gritters were warned.....

The bsuses and the taxis in Cwmbran did come to a halt today as they were all called off again but it was pretty bad about 3pm. I ended up taking the local doctor home because she couldn't get her car out of the surgery car park.

The weather warnings are to warn us of weather and not to guarantee us snowbees a snowfest and this time they've done a good job.

Unfortunately, not everyone has got the snow they wanted, but it's always hit and miss with this type of weather set up so warnings should really go out anyway...don't you think ?

anyway, thats my take on it all....looking forward to more snow tomorrow and next sunday night.

If there are weather warnings out again, I'll make sure that people who live in my unaccesable street get some contact before hand to let them know and also help out if they need anything, like clearing a path, buying some groceries etc.....

Well done the Met Office and the gritters

  6. Had about 2 inches of snow now in Cwmbran. Settled loverly, still very wet snow. Looking at the radar, expecting it to stop very soon seeing the precipitation band is coming to and end, bu the bbc forecast showing precitpitation all day....fingers crossed this end...perhaps the mmet office rainfall radar not showing lighter snow...

who knows...its still snowing here and its lurvlee !!

  7. very heavy snow here in Cwmbran

Had about 5 cm's now on top of the earlier snow which started to turn to slush but all now covered up well...temp is 1.0C wind is picking up and its bitterly cold. If this stays snowing like this then the whole of Cwmbran will be yet again at another standstill this afternoon, all the new year shoppers and all the workers piling out trying to get home.

  8. temp dropped to 0.9C wind blowing snow eased a little, a good covering however lots of footprints outside shows its close to thawing...looking at the radar it seems as though it will stop here soon and another band to come later...but there are reports the front has not halted and may intensify whole it hangs around...lets hope it hangs around for about 5 days...a foot of snow is whats needed...not a centimetre

  10. Just woke up, the missus said it was raining earlier but started to turn to snow about 645am..moderate and blowing. Temperature 1.4C

Seen the BBC forecast on 1 and it was snowing in Cardiff. The snow area seems a lot more widespread on their grpahics however it showed it turning to rain then snow then rain then snow....what sort of gunk is this going to turn into then...

The ground is starting to sludge up now and the gardens showing a whiteness so the ground temp has dropped and hopefully will settle.

Lamp post watching like never before...still very dark here and going to be a very dark overcast snowy rainy windy day...

  11. Shouldn't have put traffic lights by the new VUE leisure complex because it's caused chaos but when it snowed the other day everyone was in a mad panic to get out a flee the town because the snow was very heavy, very quick and very settling. It caused mayhen around the town. The roads didn't clear until 1845 hrs...but now it has all gone.....chaotic weather to the extreme.

If this happens again...we should be prepared but something tells me we're not...

    rain or snow....

am going to bed now to dream of waking up to a wet landscape or a winter wonderland...

i think it'll be a bit of a mix and a very messy day. The panic will set in later on again on Tuesday when it starts to turn very cold and snow starts settling in.....or will it...

    who knows...

West pontnewydd this end by the way, where are you Nevesy?

  12. Temperature has climbed here to 1.8C. Still icy pavements and calm outside. There is a cold breeze.

A bit unsure what we're going to get tomorrow, rain, sleet or snow....but I remember the days when it starts snowing here I've never seen it return to rain. The ground temps peg it right back if there's lying snow and it just carries on coming ( hopefully )

The last time I remember snow here in Cwmbran was 95/96 january and it snowed for 3 days solid...i think that year was correct.

We've already had two quite good snow evets here in Cwmbran this December 2009 and the last one last week practically gridlocked Cwmbran and left hundreds of people stranded in their cars only to abandon them and walk home.

In fact, the Cwmbran car parks were unable to empty as the traffic was that chaotic around the town people couldn't get out onto the roads from the car parks for approx 45 minutes....it was mayhem...

let's hope if we do get snbow again then people are mnore prepared this time around

watching the radar now and keeping in touch with the temps...

    will it or wont it

  13. Temperature is far too high here for snow, and with cloudcover here already, temperatures won't fall much now

temperature here 0.9C and the paths have all iced up and a heavy frost has developed since about 3pm.

If it rains here then it's going to freeze like an ice rink and I'm going to do the Bolero outside my house instead of building a snowman with the kids.

All jokes aside...if you have snow, think of anyone close by that might need your help ok.

  15. Living in Cwmbran, I think I'm going to see some fun and games later on tonight....hopefully snow lasting about 48 hours...a foot or two will do...at least the models have now sorted themselves out. All this chopping and changing has been eating into my finger nail storage...

good luck for everyone tonight and the rest of the week.

  17. I've just been out and resued 3 more people who live in upper cwmbran....all the roads are gridlocked still, the gritters did go to work on them earlier before it snowed ( did they know something then ? )

The roads are now very slushy around the town centre....all buses and taxis were stopped but now seem to have limited service.

Upper cwmbran and thornhill area treacherous and if theres any more snow tonight then fun fun fun on christmas eve...

    going to pop down asda

seeing as its 24 hrs a bit later this evening for some port to warm me up

temp now 0.7 C thats all...thought it was suppose to be milder !!

  18. Cwmbran is gridlocked !

just went out in my 4x4 and rescued the police attending an accident in Pontnewydd

they abandoned the panda car in pontewydd and i chauffered them around....eventually because of the mayhem and traffic chaos around Cwmbran, then decided to head back to Cwmbran police station and get a 4x4 themselves....a bluie light was needed on my truck !!...the officer kept getting out asking people to move over for me as was attending emergency..

absolute mayhem and chaos around here tonight...cars abandoned on hills everywhere...retails parks gridlocked..shoppers and workers pamnciking to get home.!!

and its started snowing again,,,had about 2 inches in places now...and the grit has alkl gone
