What’s of interest to me is how cold we are, have been with fairly benign set ups…especially to recent years. It has got really cold, coldest Jan night for donkeys down here from a fairly nothing set up. And projected, there’s some punchy cold to come from the ‘useless’ northerly topplers. Not what ‘some’ profess

Yes -7 here again last night. Although we've had no snow this winter, I can't remember the last time we had a winter with so many hard air frosts with temps below -3 ....Yet strangely enough I saw some daffs in flower in the village yesterday

They have been abysmal and there is no other way to describe it. Utterly pointless waste of time even putting them to print
100% agree ....Its pathetic really given the money and info they have .
They just cover just about every possible outcome in every update

I really don't know why people pay so much attention to these met office updates . IMO they are no more accurate than they were 20 years ago. They cover just about every possible outcome in every update. I find the guys on here more accurate to be honest. Just my opinion

Yep i agree. But only because i live near the east coast. That's a good point, those snow flurries across the east could become heavier and leave a covering, anyone else agree?

Indeed, it seems to have developed from nowhereWell this is going to surprise a few people in Lowestoft when they wake up tomorrow morning. Lowestoft Webcam.

Yes , i wasnt expecting this tonight. Nice little brucie bonusIf it keeps snowing like this for too long I'm not going to get my van out of my road in the morning, so I'm off to park it a mile away on a road that should be gritted.

Yeah, another couple of hours of this and we will end up with hour deepest snow cover for several years hereBrilliant innit!!!

Posh Pigs. Awesomegreat, my mum is manager at posh pigs and hates driving in the snow....i'm sure she will be well pleased lol

Hi Ribster, just been for a drive round ellough and theres some awesome drifts up thereEpic out there (in Beccles), belting down, blowing all over the place in the wind, must be at least 2-3 inches, going to be more than was suggested I think!
-
Hi Slater, got a good 5 or 6 cm here in beccles , blowing about and driftinghmmm, only 1cm in 4hours, its so fine snow cant even see if it is snowing, so where is the heavy stuff? going by the radar does not seem to be coming here.
-
Finally there are a few flakes in the air here in BecclesAnd, who needs a fancy radar, eh? I can see it's doing nowt, and done nowt, just by looking out the windy!

What an a***hole. LOLAt the moment I have a neighbour who keeps going outside throwing grit everywhere. Very tempted to go out and smack him round the head with the spade hes using.
Snow on the increase now with a heavier zone of snow from Peterborough to Norwich developing which is exactly what the NAE suggested.

Indeed, seven days in a row of lying snow (and counting) , two nights of double digit minus figures, barely above 0 degrees for seven days now , and im seven miles from the coast at sea level. Ive seen worse here believe mehave you moved to the uk from canada ? this winter, based on the past few decades is pretty reasonable re cold and snow thus far. not near the top but a long way from the bottom. we still have 5 to 6 weeks before march so methinks your post is a tad early.
-
LOLThe speciality fully-patented 'Yamkin' ruler helps though, doesn't it?
-
And the silence on here tonight from the big guns is a concern tooRest of the winter too! What they have seen to suddenly turn the winter into an above average one is a concern.

Hi BA , the latest met updates seem to suggest zonal dross for the rest of decemberi cant help wondering if i'm looking at the same output as everyone else. forget the detail of ecm op post day 6/7. Look at the upstream pattern. Does that look like delivering zonal dross? The trough will run out of energy and disrupt slowly. All up for grabs as we go through next week.
-
Hi BA, could you please explain what you mean by the signs looming large on the NWP. Regards Billywe may have expected to be further north with the breakdown by now (within T96/120) and some are thinking that there is still time for the models to shift the pattern even further south. anythings possible but that atlantic jet seems awfully strong and i cant see anything getting in its way now. we had our sunday morning 'lift' and tbh, the ecm mean at T120 is encouraging but i fear that upper warm front shown on the fax will introduce high enough uppers to scupper even a soueasterly flow ahead of the precip band. northern england and scotland could still manage a decent fall and beyond next weekend could retain well below av surface conditions. its all a shame but the signs of the next instalment are already looming large on the nwp.
