  1. Hi,

I thought I spoke to soon as for me here in Garston as it appears to be getting colder here and what is coming down is sticking to car windscreens and wheelie bins.  Also if it is snowing and settling in Southport, surely it is good news for me in South Liverpool - snow in Southport rarer than Garston I would assume! It would be nice to know if the snow over Southport will reach South Liverpool should not be too long if coming my way.

  2. I went to Manchester Airport today - was snowing at Manchester Airport from about 3pm but when I got back to Garston - Liverpool South Parkway nothing in terms of snow lying - still nothing as far as I can see just that drizzly stuff I find it amazing that we have missed out as parts of Runcorn and Widnes have lying snow - do you think we in Garston are in with a chance?

  3. Hi HC,

Yeah I remember December 2000 as well that was quite a deep snowfall I think we also got some snow in December 2001.  Surely however the largest snowfall I remember in Liverpool was February 1996 which meant my school was closed that was certainly some snowfall - also I remember March 2006 being quite deep from a frontal event.

HC, did you get the snow in March 2013 not to bad here it was on a Friday - it snowed of a morning then started snowing again in the evening time - you also must have had the 2 snowfalls in January 13 aswell which were pretty decent for our area I would say.

  4. Hi HC,

You said we never normally get anything from a Northerly - wasn't December 2010 a Northerly or more correctly a NW'ly? Great snowfall - remember the heavy snow streamer on the Friday was that caused by a trough I don't think it was a polar low?

Also HC do you remember how much snow Liverpool or our area got during February 1991 as I can't seem to remember it did we get quite a bit though the snow coming across the Pennines?

  5. The flow only turned N'ly this afternoon. So yes just have to wait and see.

Personally I find lowland NW away from the hills rarely gets much in a N'ly set-up.

You will always have the chance of coastal showers from time to time.

    OK Thanks for the reply

  6. Do you think features could set up in this northerly flow I thought is is supposed to be an unstable northerly flow so what is stopping the ppn forming - can't snow events appear at short notice in this pattern ala 2010?

Oh I see now from your post above it is a case of being patient to see if anything occurs!  Thanks for your reply.

  7. I can hear hail here just asking what do you think our chances of more snow for my area this week should it be more conductive for snow for us tomorrow.  BT, if you are around what do you think our chances for a decent amount of snow are over the next few days?

  8. Hi,

Luke here again I am in Garston in Liverpool - just wondering what my chances of seeing snowfall this week are - I would like a few cm do you think we could get some once the colder air moves in from tomorrow onwards - when would our best chance be to see something interesting as it would be nice for us to get a snowfall that sticks around for a while - considering the outlook if we get more snow is it more likely to stick around this time? I can't see next week being completely dry/featureless with this unstable pattern I am sure something may pop up - as I want snow that sticks around and freezes at night!

  9. Hi,

I am curious to how much snow Liverpool/Merseyside got in February 1991 - I know that we did not get as much snow as eastern parts of the country but how much snow did we get as I have difficulty remembering it someone on this board mentioned he measured 15cm not to far from me so would that be about right? I am sure we must have had some snow lying in Liverpool from this event.

Also - did we get much snow in Liverpool in January 1987 I think we did not get much due to the Peninnes - maybe it was a small amount of powder snow that lasted for a while because it was so cold - it would be nice to find some photos of Liverpool in these months to see what the situation was in my area re: snow.

  10. Hi,

I remember the 5th February 1996 snow in Liverpool - just wondering how much snow we got did we get over 20cm? I am curious about other snow events in Liverpool that winter - Aderyn - did we get snow in on the ground in Liverpool in December 1995 in particular just before NYE 1995 I think we might have done on the 30th how much did we get in that event - and did we get any earlier on in 1995.  Any more snow events in Liverpool you remember.

Another question would be how much snow did my location get in February 1991 as I have difficulty remembering it in Liverpool - I know we did not get as much as the east but I think we certainly got some snow here I think someone said 15cm or so is that right - just if you remember that event in Liverpool Adeyn?

  11. Looks like BT and me are in the sweet spot as well on his map - we will have to wait and see what falls from the sky but I am confident we will get some snow if this cold spell continues - that is if the ECM is not correct apparently - someone on the model thread has said 144 shocking presumably saying the Atlantic is coming back it but I do think if that stratospheric warming verifies then times could get very interesting indeed.

  12. Hi,

Just as I wait for possible snow I am curious if any knows how much snow did the Liverpool/Merseyside area get in the February 1991 spell - I know being an Easterly a lot would have been sheltered by the pennines but some one on hear said that he got 15cm or so - does anyone remember how much snow in my locale as I can't seem to remember it very well.  Also how did my patch fare in 1987 so I think it might have been not that much snow but it might have lasted a long time due to how cold that spell was?

  13. Hi BT,

I am located in Garston and we had a bit of wet snow/hail last night, freezing fog this morning then we had that rain moving in - gone a bit dark now.

Just asking what do you think the chances of us getting snow cover (at least a few cm) later this week? going by this event on Tuesday and Wednesday and later on in the week - do you think we could see something interesting?

Even if we don't do you think we could have more opportunities later in the week - and I sure we will if this stratospheric warming comes off.

  14. It really could get very very cold tonight.. against the run of play as they say, it cloudyish, but the temperatures is dropping like a stone.

Potential for -5C tonight I think, buy very surprising considering the ground isn't all that cold anymore.

I see I notice Blackpool Airport are on 1C and thats right on the coast see www.xcweather.co.uk.

  15. I'm starting to ask myself the question:

    What do YOU expect?

I mean, you guys are looking beyond 92hrs on the models which is very unwise at the moment anyway, the ensembles are all over the place, and even the 500mb anomaly charts are struggling, the worst I have ever seen in fact. See my posted image, if that isn't just as good as snow, then what is?!

Sunny, crisp days with the temperature struggling to get above freezing during the day, dropping close to minus double digits at night.

    post-8895-0-77642900-1328553326_thumb.pn

Simple, if you want snow, move. Go to Europe or Eastern England, and stop with the stupid 'winter is over' posts, because you know damn right it isn't. I know you're going to say 'you're one to talk about misleading people' but this is exactly what you are doing. Stop.

Exactly what I'm talking about, this is just silly.

    Hi BT,

I am not that bothered about getting snow now, I will be happy with a few hard frosts (i.e. temperatures below freezing). The freezing rain/ice event was interesting as we don't normally get it here so I could say it was more intersting than snow - raining at -1C.

Anyway are we expecting hard frosts this week some decent frosts would be great I would love to get to -6C under clear skies makes it seem seasonal what nights are we expecting hard frosts?

Anyway, the Model Thread drives my head in sometimes there seems to be a lot of gloom and doom on thier at the moment - even some of the more optimistic posters (example TEITS) are starting to get grumpy looking at the lastest output.
