  1. Cant believe it, i said i wouldnt get sucked in and disappointed when the downgrades start but the great GFS runs for days for wales had me believing. Then now we're getting closer its started, went from looking great to marginal in one run (for the North coast anyway), just hope it isnt so progressive in the next run and comes more in to line like previous runs but cant see it looking at the other models. The places that seem to always get the snow will be lapping it all up again :(

  2. Being on the far west coast and low down in Aber, I hope I don't completely miss out this coming week!!

Yeah same here on the North Wales coast (Colwyn Bay) but more often than not we do miss out. Now i have learnt to just expect rain and its a nice surprise if we get the white stuff smile.png

  3. This has/is been an amazing snow storm - glad you've all got the snow you've been wishing for - seems this "even larger teapot" will set the tone for winters to come possibly - and we'll ban the mild winter to the global warming cupboard and lock it up!!!!!!!!

Unless your in North Wales where we get the tail end of everything, theres sod all left by the time it gets here, doesnt matter whether its from the south west or east, its run dry and always light. Bar the really low temps, snow wise its service as usual for the north

  4. Temps around 2-4c on the coast, 0-1c inland. Heavy Precipitation always lowers temps in situations like this.

This is why Evaporational cooling, with the amount of energy requires to thaw upper level snow, lowers the temp, which then means upper level snow falls to the ground as snow.

My guess at the moment is (I have been wrong before, some say I've never right whistling.gif )

Heavy Snow for Mid Wales, Moderate Snow for the Valleys of South Wales, a wintry mix for coastal areas in the south, with some snow for coastal areas with altitude.

    Further thoughts from Ian Fergusson
