  1. Hopefully this is ok to post here (mods - please delete if not).

I am sadly having to give up my wireless Davis Vantage Pro 2 due to personal circumstances. I have had it for quite a few years and the service it has given me has been excellent (aside from a transmission problem when I first got it and the usual blown capacitor which Davis promptly rectified). There currently is one known problem with the front solar panel which has broken at the bottom edge and so requires replacement (a quick search looks like this would cost in the region of £55). I also have the anemometer sensor transmitter kit, this enables the anemometer to be fixed away from the VP2 sensor suite and up to 300m from the receiving console.

    Included is:

Wireless VP2 Pro Plus (includes the additional UV and solar radiation sensors).

    Anemometer transmitter kit.

VP2 console (have not been able to find the mains power cable because I have used the datalogger which means it requires batteries to run)

    datalogger

    Weatherlink software

    Weather Display software

    Manuals

Everything noted above for £300 not including delivery (collection from East Sussex would be preferred).

I hope someone can give this wonderful bit a kit a bit of TLC that it deserves and in doing so gets to record some marvellous weather.

  2. some very welcome rain in Hastings for the past hour, preceded by some thunder. Looks like we are in the bulls eye for the line of cloud/rain coming out of France and could be with us for some while. Still a hot and sticky 27.7 in the home-office, though a pleasant 19.1 outside. Think I may get an umbrella out and do some paperwork in the garden!

  3. Just an update in case anyone has a similar issue with the VP2 in the future....it turned out that my data logger had gone faulty. I have to say that McMurdo (the UK importer for Davis) have been absolutely brilliant dealing with my solar panel fault and then the data logger.

The VP2 is obviously an expensive piece of equipment but it certainly is worth it in the long run when the suppliers give such exemplary servicePosted Image

  4. Thanks for the reply, sorry not getting back sooner - rather typically I lost my internet connection for a few days!

Your prognosis looked promising but I've got 1.9 firmware installed! I bought the system in June 2006 so mine could have been manufactured prior to April, though I'm not certain.

Hope McMurdo can come up with a suitable answer

  5. Need a bit of help with my VP2 please.

I Recently had to send the solar panel back to McMurdo as the supercap needed replacing, also sent back my VP2 console to get up dated firmware (they offered so thought why not!). It came back not long after and all was ok, no more nights with no readings Posted Image Also had to replace the thermometer/humidity sensor on the Sensor Suite, which was bought elsewhere and installed myself with no difficulties (this was the second one I've had to replace Posted Image )

I left it all running for a few days to be certain everything was ok before connecting up to my pc, which I've now done. Problem I have is the inability to download any new data,  though the pc recognises the system is connected to it as the Bulletin window in Weatherlink shows my console data nicely. When I go to download it says there's 'no new data'. I've made sure the date/time correspond on the console and my pc, removed said data logger and tried re-installing after powering everything down; I've even set up a new station to see if there is any corrupt data that's upsetting my original station...all to no avail.

Only thing I can see is possibly an issue is to do with the baud rate. Weatherlink confirms it is set at 19200 however when I go through the set up process on the console (pressing 'done' and '-' buttons) there is no option to set the baud rate. Looking at the manual this should be the last screen the console offers before going back to the beginning (screen 14 after the 'rain season' screen).

Anyone else had issues similar to this or has updating the software caused something to go wrong. Or is the data logger not being recognised by the console and therefore doesn't offer to set the baud rate???

I would really appreciate any help or advice (going to send an email to Mcmurdo to see what they have to say).

    Thanks for reading.

  6. Can anyone give me some advice, I would like to set up an internet weather station and was thinking of getting the Davis Pro2, if any of you guys have the Pro2 can you please advise, I know they are very expensive in the UK and I can get on from America for a lot less even after paying import duty, what do you think.

    Thanks

    Bunty.

Ps I use an Apple Mac computer and I do believe I can link the Davis Pro2 to the Mac.

I think the wireless VP2 from America cannot be used in this country due to frequency regs. The cabled version would probably need a transformer to take into account the different voltages plus will you be covered by a warranty?. It is a great bit of kit if you're willing to stump up a wad of money(beyond purchase when things go wrong it hits the wallet a bit hard at times - my temperature/humidity sensor needed replacing last week at a cost of £150!).

  7. Hastings update. Full on blizzard, drifting snow in gale gusts.A max temp of -1c. Two inches in town.Total white out conditions, road and rail mayhem!

reports from ESCC that drifting on The Ridge is causing big problems and they've decided to send out a gritter with a snow plough to deal with it. Know doubt it left Lewes not long ago but the drivers shift is about to come to an end and so will be returning to basesorry.gif
