  1. I all.

Do any of you have the luxury of be able to radar/post watch with your or halves blessings, or even better together?

Or are we all confined to the odd sneak, with rugular grumbles of get off that laptop, its not gonna snow?

Im sure this is not unique to my house hold!!

Snows coming for MK I think, the temp has help at +0.4c for 3 hrs now, is this dropping when the snow showers arrive helping it stick?

  2. I think everyone on here shares in the bitter disappointment waking up this morning. A quick check of the radar suggests that the continuous snowfall all day is just not going to happen. Infact quite a quick thaw seems to have set in. I havent been out yet, but i guess its still cold out there. Just seen the BBC news and they are still predictitng up to 20cm of fresh snowfall in the next 48 hrs.!!

That clearly isnt going happen, the front has stalled in the channel and is not making much progress.

So how come all the experts, and the experts on this site went with the heavy snow for sunday.?

Is there anyone who still believes this major event is still going ahead - alas just delayed for several hours ?

    Hmmm.

As with my question posed, the more experienced, kmowledgeable members have gone quiet.

I seems the good old British weather has 'stumped em all'

No one is to blame, I suppose the weather is just always going to remain one of natures trump cards!!

    Enjoy the Slush/overnight ice aggressive.gif

  3. OK.

So since last Thursday, the beeb, sky, ITV, local weather, Netweather were all talking about a major snow event Sat night ito Sunday and beyond, this did get a little downgraded by all parties, but the beeb and members on this string, plus the general output string were still predicting some snow for all!

I am no expert, but from watching the europe radars and charts, this was looking unlikely from yesterday morning but no-one said, Sorry Guys, its all off and if anyone gets any snow in EA and the 3 counties then you will be lucky if its more than a dusting.

Please, can anyone explain, where did it all go wrong? I need to know so I can understand the potentials in these situations so I can always temper any forcast views with the possible alternative.

Plus, Corwall and Devon seem to be getting hammered on the Radar and present, opps, that was not 4cast either.

    Thanks

  4. This radar is highlighting the snow anomolies some have experienced that are not showing in the radars, some of these showers are developing inland, so you won't see them coming.

I think this is the result of convection, can any of the more experienced comment please?

  5. I'm in Walpole -so opposite ends of PE14 - in that case you could get a foot of snow and me nothing or vice versa!!! Strange the way it goes....I have been trying to read the models for the past month or so, reading educational threads etc and I am still none the wiser whistling.gif

On the other hand, experience tells me:

    1. We will get a dusting, occassionally, no warning.
    2. If we are predicted snow (particularly by the BBC) - we won't get any.
    3. Our roads won't be gritted - whatever the weather, and our bins won't be collected - whatever the weather
    4. However much snow I get it won't be enough!!!!!!

    x x x:p

Fab 6th post, keep it up!!

  6. Hi - have just joined having found the forum. Went out earlier and temp according to car was 3o!!! I too am on Cambs/Norfolk/Lincs border - no-one ever seems to mention the Wash!! Still, probably because it's a bit of a no man's land! So what's expected for us - do you know. I look at the radar and it says we have ppn over us but nothing - then we get a rogue shower. Are you, or any other poster, any the wiser???? Thanking you in advance hi.gif

The Wash gets many a mention, you live where much of our snow showers and streamers generate.

    Happy posting

  7. To a certain extent I agree. Kent will have recorded the highest totals by the end of this and Barnet is too for south of the percip in Netherlands. I think places such as North Herts up to Peterborough etc will get hit by this though. I have been looking at all the charts / radars etc pver the last 2 hrs and would gues at 5-10cm for this location by end of tommorow. Ask me again tommorow and that may change lol!

Milton Keynes, could be in a sweet spot if it comes off a the charts suggest.

  8. 1st Percip with Herts name on it is now appearing off the coast of suffolk. You can see on the radar http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ that echoes are now appearing further north at sea to around Norwich. This will start traveling inland and may even start traveling slightly north as it pushes in land. As stated earlier it will be a painfull process so going to watch a film and come back later! ETA East Herts, Beds, Bucks 1030pm. West Anglia 8pm Eastern areas in the next hour or so.

I recommend, 'The Day After Tomorrrow' !! get you in the mood for the next few days

  9. Hi,

Ben Nevis is well nice at the top, walked up there 2 years ago with my little one (he was 5 then), although it did take him a while to get there he done it. never got a pic though because i left my camera in the tent. wallbash.gif

He wants to go back this year so fingers crossed we can (waterfalls should be very nice with this ammount of snow on the mountains).

Back to the weather: We had a very light snow flurry about 10 mins ago (nothing on the radar though), only lasted about 5 mins.

Temp is around 0c (thermometer not that good - soz), and it is fairly breezy now compared to a couple of hours ago.

I hpe you get a foto like this one from the very top.

    Good luck

  10. If you look at this site it shows you up to date wind direction and speed and also dew temps etc for 100s of locations ....

http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ Winds are still NE but if you look of the Norfolk coast they are veering E. I dont expect the widespread snow to hit our region much before midnight TBH.

Just noticed that dew points are getting high (+2) near the coasts so dont be dissapointed here to sleet / rain. Still snow 20 miles inland.

    Cheers, added to the faves.

  11. Actually I am more mad about snow than you I spent £2000 flying to Lapland to see snow and loved it that much I went again the next year, and when I was sixteen I flew to Canada ( did they have planes in them days) to see a white christmas and for the first time in 17 yrs it did not snow untill boxing day, but it was 4ft so I did'nt mind.

Oh and there is no attachment. whistling.gif

OK, you love snow too, but flying too is a lot easier than walking up!!

    attachement attached.

wont go off topic again. promise

  12. Ive been on husband duties all day and just got a break lol! Will be lucky to get Dad to help he's in Tenerife! Back to the weather before I get shot by a mod!

I think 3 counties will get between 10-15cm by the end of tommorow and light persistent snow on Monday. Lots of people are watching every forecast and counting the specles but its realy irrelevant at the moment. BBC charts show a general trend before +24hrs when they can forecast heavier bursts etc. Its a bit of a forecasters nightmare because for our regioun they have to track percipitation over the low countries and then calculate how much it will pep up on crossing the north sea. As with most NE / E incursions some areas may record 20cm and others only 5cm and the only way to predict for your location is to look at the radar. Beyond Tues looks interesting as we may be on the northern side of the low skirting the south. If this is the case we could get some very heavy snowfall. Latest GFS shows cold and snow lasting for another 10 days and most models agree to a certain extent. Not good for photocopier sales !!

It has watmed up here in the last hour, up to -2.5, is that the warming effect of the E'lys coming off the North sea?

  13. OK

    Here is the proof.

In July 2009, I climbed to the top of the Highest Mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis, just to see some snow!! see attached.

So, its now official, no one is more mad about snow that me, are they?

OK ,so it was part of the three peaks challenge, doing it again this may! but we did have a great snowball fight in the UK in July, not many have done that.

  14. Just been checking the radat and it seems MK is going to miss most of the snow tonight it will mainly pass to the south of you (over Stevenage) drinks.gif

PS Have you finished that wardrobe yet?

Ahh, Weather Man Bland, you grace this thread at last. What was the matter, dis you get stuck in the past and still posting on the South East string??

Yep, I think your right, it will be 2-0 to Stevenage by the AM, an prob more by Monday morning.

Have you got any thoughts about the charts for monday, looks like it could be v.intresting.

Oh, I've been out all day and not had any SOS's so maybey the boys done good and finished it all on his own, and a little help form his good lady. Or he is waiting for some good old dad help tomorrow!!
