London & South East Regional Discussion - 24th January 2013, 06z onwards
hardcj replied to Snowangel-MK's topic in Regional
Well it's definitely snowing in Medway! I've just driven back from Canterbury and as soon as I hit blue bell hill, it was snowing all the way through to the Medway towns.... Starting to get quite heavy now in the wind!? I honestly thought we'd have rain or sleet at best! Best not snow too much as I have to be in Canterbury again tomorrow morning!haha- 1,317 replies

Does anyone have a link to the Alex Deakin 22:20 extended weather forecast this evening?
-
Well that's the second MAJOR disappointment of no snow within a space of a week!!!!! Not believing anything now until its actually fallen in my back garden!!!.......including Sunday!
-
Well they've changed the warnings in our favour and extended the yellow snow warnings till midday Sunday! Next week is looking promising also!
-
Paul I'll go for same or further east please
-
Well 06z GFS showing snow tomorrow still hitting us from midday to 15:00 so no shift west! And by 18:00 tomorrow....
-
My 2 pence worth.... Now firstly Steve Murr pointed out earlier that the UKMO had 2 runs that were near identical with regards to the tracking and position of the low on Friday/Saturday. This is just 1 GFS/NAE run! Previous runs were on track for a country wide event and maye wobble east/west run by run. The UKMO has been performing excellently recently and the GFS/NAE have followed suit either way throughout this whole cold spell so I personally will stick with the UKMO outlook! The GFS never quite gets there till 12h before any event like this! It seems to try every possibility until then!

Above are from the 06Z hi res NMM and below are the 12Z images ^^ slowly moving towards us, but the precipitation rates do drop a bit! ^^ again this shows the precipitation rates dropping but only because its come onto land....be interesting to see where this stalls!? Anywhere near the east and it'll pull moisture from the North Sea and surrounding areas!- 803 replies

Well it's looking good for Friday/Saturday for us and even later on past the weekend for snow (not counting my chickens yet though as disappointed by the recent near miss! But I think the right signs are there and the met office might be thinking the same: "Yellow Alert of Snow18 Jan 2013, 03:00 Issued at - 16 Jan 2013, 10:56 Valid from - 18 Jan 2013, 03:00 Valid to - 18 Jan 2013, 23:55 As the weather breaks down, an area of snow looks increasingly likely to spread from the southwest. Winds will strengthen and blizzard conditions are a possibility, especially over high ground. Accumulations of more than 10 cm of snow are possible in many parts, with the potential for some severe disruption, though currently there is a good deal of uncertainty about intensity of snow and how quickly it will turn to rain in the southwest. The public should be aware of the risk of significant travel disruption affecting the west in the morning and the east in the afternoon. This warning is likely to be updated over the next couple of days." The bits that stick out to me are: -risk of significant travel disruption affecting east in the afternoon -this warning is likely to be updated over the next couple of days.... The models are pointing at something quite significant, BUT as others have posted.....a shift either was can change things for our little island!- 803 replies

So far the 18z gives the south east a pasting for a good 30 hours with only 1 3 hour gap of a lul in the snow!....wonder if that'll verify? -

Just been having a look at last years vs this years and there seems to be a bit more ice/snow around and more congregated in areas instead of a dusting here and there! - this is 16th September 2009 northern hemisphere - this is yesterdays northern hemisphere image Taken quite an interest in this thread as you can see!lol -

Looks like the stuff that just hit you is on its way to me in Strood! also looking on the radar, looks like you've got a few more heavy showers on your way before a little break in the showers then more later! -

hardcj replied to Paul's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
I'm in strood at the moment and the small amount of snow we had earlier has all gone and its sunny! But there are some very dark and big clouds on the horizon.....doubt much will happen here though as looking on the radar they keep disappearing before they get to us! -
