Defintely a 6-7/10 on the murrmometer scale. Feel like a child in a sweet shop at the moment..
-
Snowing moderately here in south-east sheffield at long last, decent sized flakes mixed in and being driven along in the strong wind. HAPPY DYYS :-)
-
Guys & Gals... Looking in the other regional threads earlier, and they were using the Steve Murr - snow intensity index ? Very light here so probably 1 / 10 at the moment..
-
Very light snow just started. Reminds me of fridays icing sugar snow event, need bigger flakes please mother nature ?!!?
-
Throwing it down in swallownest at the moment. Medium sized flakes rather than the icing sugar snow from earlier..do you have any precipitation now?its bone dry in sheff
-
BRUCEY BONUS !!!! light snow for the last hour and lots more to come looking at the latest radar. And all this before the main event. Enjoy it folks - its what we follow & have been waiting for !! :-)
-
Looking at the amber warning for tomorrow, and it would only take an eastward shift of around 20 miles to cover Barnsley/Sheffield/Chesterfield. An IMBY point of view -Yes, but after missing out generally over the last few days ( even today, a light band of snow has formed just to our east ) then i for one, am anticipating good snowfall.. Happy radar watching
-
Met office & bbc local/national forecasts for tomorrow, now showing sleet and temps upto 4 or 5'c for the afternoon here in sheffield. Reserving the east coast and high elevations prone to a strengthening easterly flow for all day snow. ANY EXPERIENCED THOUGHTS guys ??
-
Just started here i swallownest. Don't think i will need the snow shovel though !!Dry and cold. Radar shows it's snowing but it isn't. Sad that the front is so weak was hoping for something better.
-
Snow was never meant to get here till till after dark. Which is exactly what this region needs, so as to allow the temps to drop from roughly 2.5 - 3.5'c at the moment dependant on location. Just hoping there is enough left on the front to better the icing sugar dusting we got in south east sheffield last night.. Fingers are crossed !
-
Been following its progress since midday, and is clearly being killed off by the hills. Early doors yet though, although the front has certainly got a move on !!I'm keeping my eye on the raintoday radar and precipitation seems to be fizzling out just the other side of the Pennines. :-(
-
Mine went to bed an hour earlier. If only she knew what i get upto at night whilst she sleeps !!I gave up checking. My OH told me to keep the door shut. lol

At last, light snow now falling in south east sheffield. So good to see the orange glow when you open the curtains.
-
Sleeting heavily here but has a lot more snow in it than yesterdays high elevation event only. Next week looks very promising - and need these next 4 / 5 days to dry the ground out.
-
Anytime now. Wind is now northerly and lower 850's are racing south just ahead of the band that is currently heading ssw from the durham/darlington area. Fingers crossed the north sea element may intensify the precip a little ??temp stuck at 3.3c here any idea when it should start dropping?

I feel your pain allenar.. although a much cooler start to the season, it does seem that us living at moderate heights are watching the POTENTIAL for others. Tonights cold front seems to be losing its will to live as it heads south over the border. Saying all this - I WILL be radar & thread watching with fingers crossed.. ( moan over )!Thing I dont get, this cold spell is yes cold, but unless you live on the tops or up a big hill with elevation the best we can expect is rain or if lucky, sleet. I noticed the latest look north forecast showed the atlantic pushing a front through for thursday with rain preceeded by snow, so any accumilations soon washed away.
-
Sleety rain here in south-east sheffield. Quite heavy now since it only started 15mins ago. Reports of heavy snow around castleton/hathersage/fox house area..
-
Should be out of my misery within half an hour. Winds now southerly, temp 1.5, dewpoint 0.3. Good luck you guys that are further/higher up in the country ?
-
Dewpoint just about to go into positive numbers, and a recent temp rise MEANS i wont have to endure the pain of standing duty on lampost watch tonight. Better luck tues night with some back edge snow hopefully ?
Been a cracking winters day today though..
-
Rain getting heavier, & rolling distant thunder to the west getting nearer. Just need that flash of lightning & crack of thunder. EDIT Just happened !! WELL HAPPY NOW..
-
Typical, Been in the no storms club all year. This week i'm near aberdeen on holiday AND today everyone back home is reporting thunder. Enjoying the Ukraine storm though!!
-
Decent size hail here in south/east sheffield. Temp dropped like a stone as well. Waiting for a rumble of thunder ( fingers/toes crossed ).
-
Just started sleeting here. some big flakes mixed in.. All night left for some wintry action
-
Just started to snow again here in southeast sheffield , too add to the major DUSTING that happened after 3-4hrs of rain/sleet after lunch
