  1. I think it all depends on the depth of the water it erupts in. I can remember seeing a graph (of the depth and pressures that are needed for it to start producing major interactions with the magma) on eruptions the other day, i'll have a look to see if i can find it again.
  2. This seems to be getting a bit confusing now as the guys on Eruptions are now saying that there probably has not been an eruption yet, and that it was possibly just a gas release. Seems the local authorities had jumped the gun about an eruption before it had been confirmed. Although Jon Frimann thinks the actual eruption could start very soon (3-6 hours).
  3. People on the Eruptions blog seem to think El Hierro might be about to start erupting. And looking at this tremor plot I think they could well be right. http://www.01.ign.es/ign/head/volcaSenalesAnterioresDia.do?nombreFichero=CHIE_2011-10-10&estacion=CHIE&Anio=2011&Mes=10&Dia=10 No official conformation yet though...
  4. The wind has really got up again here too in the last hour or two, some gusts seem stronger than some we were experiencing earlier today.
  5. Just found another good write up on possible effects from Irene's storm surge. Doesn't make pleasant reading if its anywhere near the final result. http://www.tornadotitans.com/blog/2011/08/25/36-irene-either-a-gargantuan-story-or-a-big-one
  6. Here's a couple of timelapses i've found over on the Eruptions blog of Etna's eruption last night.
  7. Yes, i got back from watching Paul Scholes' testamonial earlier, but the sky to the north in Manchester, after the game had a green tint to it but to me it was more of a fading light / twilight than a aurora. That would of been abour 22.00. And it was completely dark by the time i had finished queing in the traffic so it wouldnt surprise me if someones trying to fool a few people with that pic. Edit. That one from Kendal looks alot more like it.
  8. Yeah i saw that, Wilts, Hampshire and Berkshire i've seen mentioned over the last few minutes. And now ive just seen this " Spaceweather.com says #aurora may be visible tonight at ALL LATITUDES. Get yer tripods! " (Kevin Baird)
  9. Well it is Twitter and i wouldnt totally put my trust in it sometimes. But going from reports it seems people in Scotland with a clear view north can see nothing and people in the south can see it. That all seems strange to me, i wouldnt be surprised if theres a few people making things up tonight.
  10. Etna putting on yet another show tonight. Webcams; http://www.radiostudio7.it/webcam.asp http://www.guide-etna.com/webcam/
  11. Yeah, it seems like the cloud is slowly clearing over me, so i might soon be able to see for myself, although i don't hold high hopes due to having the orange glow of Manchester in the sky to my north.
  12. On Twitter some people in Wiltshire and North Wales are apparently seeing an aurora.
  13. Etna putting on a show again tonight http://www.guide-etna.com/webcam/
  14. Thanks for the welcome John. Still remains to be confirmed which volcano is erupting and if it is in Eritrea or Ethiopia but it does look as though it's coming from Nabro in Eritrea but it is right on the border with Ethiopia Seems like mainstream media have caught onto it here.
  15. Hi, been a long time lurker, but I thought I should post to say that a possible eruption related to this series of earthquakes, is being discussed here bigthink.com/ideas/38811 . As far as I know there has been no official confirmation of an eruption but a possible plume has been seen on here.
