  1. Still light snow falling here in a steady easterly despite radar showing nothing overhead. Had about 3cm last night but gutters are dripping, so some melt going on.

Just measured 13cms total on Patio table whereas there only about 7cm on the grass....which indicates it must be melting due to warmer ground temps?...

Looks like a frost due tonight according to gfs so could be some tricky conditions on untreated surfaces later.

  2. I'm pretty sure that I remember that yesterday, people were saying that the system should drag the cold air in with it as it rotates.

    Or am I imagining things?

Hi, This taken from the Met Office warning seems to confirm what your saying? Lets hope so!

    Chief Forecaster's Assessment

Complex frontal features are affecting parts of the south through Tuesday. With flow becoming more northeasterly through the day much colder air will be drawn into the system and increase the snow risk and the area likely to be affected. There is still a fair degree of uncertainty in the detail and there may be further adjustments to the warning as events unfold.

  3. Just back from walking dog across the snow fields, what a lovely change from the mud and puddles of late! A good 4 to 5 inches in the fields.

Been steadily snowing for past two hours with small flakes but also with a watery sun occasionally showing through the low cloud..nice effect. Considering I'm at nearly the most easterly extent of the precip, surprised by the density of it to be honest. Snow settling on existing snow quite happily but struggling to settle on paths etc. looking at the gfs 06z precip charts, looks like it should intensify later, mainly in south east though...looking good for those folks.

    Edit....snow lighter now. temp 1.0c

  4. Really wouldn't get too despondent. We really won't know for certain until tomorrow what is going to happen on Monday's/Tuesday's event.

Even if that doesn't produce the goods the odds are on for an even colder spell later in the month and going into February. Still plenty of time this winter for us all to get some snowfall. Patience (and a bit of faith) is the key good.gif

Got to agree with this. It's looking a bit marginal especially the further south and west you are for the early part of next week. A lot of people will see some snow falling, wether it settles will be location/height dependant.

Trying to keep my expectations low....maybe I'll nicely suprised that way..

Lets hope the further effects of the ongoing SSW fall in our favour later in the month!

Currently 4.4 C in a raw easterly, dry for now.

  5. Estimate 7 - 10 cm here in N Swindon my prediction of 0.5cm based on previous let downs was completely wrong

    Morning all,

Yep, can confirm that we have about the same (about 3 miles west of you) I`ve just finished a night shift and the roads around Swindon were tricky to say the least, completely covered in snow, no sign of gritters last night.

    Still steady light snow atm.

This event seems to have dumped at least as much as last weeks!

  6. Morning all

ong time since I last posted in here! Seems the arc of snow finally moved south enough to have dumped about 2 to 3 inches or so overnight (hadn`t started properly before I went to bed).Still snowing atm light/moderate. Hope everyone has a good/safe day in the snow.

Better get ready for work (if I can get out of the lane!)

  7. Morning all,

Well went to bed at 11.30 last night, snow had just started, still snowing this morning! Have got a cumulative 8 inches on the patio now  Road through the village virtually impassable ...4x4s trying to tow cars up the hill. Think I`ll give work a miss til later!

Whats noticeable this morning is a strongish northeast wind, looks like the low in the channel is getting squeezed by the colder air from the north. Anyone know if this will increase the precip, or will it just peter out?

Think this fall is unlikely to thaw as the cold air comes in this afternoon...

    Enjoy...

  8. lol... :p ...sleet big time here..shame would of liked the big flakes

a few hrs ago we had a heavy snow shower.now mainly rain strange weather

Weird that, heavy snow shower just eased off here and not much elevation either, haven`t ventured out to check thermometer though... only been snowing for 30 mins and we have had about an inch in that time! Looking lovely and fluffy out there. Maybe heading your way?

  9. Evening all

After checking the Metox radar , guessed it should start snowing here in North Wilts soon....and sure enough it has!...the heavy stuff might being going north just east of me though. Some bright echoes on the met office radar,so some places getting some heavy snow.

    Edit stopped already!

Am keeping optimistic re our chances on Thursday/Friday but too early to call exactly where the boundary between snow/rain is going to be. Just remember, though, the (very) few memorable dumps of snow in this neck of the woods come from channel lows coming up against cold entrenched air...will the uppers be cold enough though?

  10. Its really pretty difficult to tell

The best thing to do is use a european radar and forecast it yourself.....i think too many people are falling into the trap once more of following bbc weather graphics too literally

Hi all, you can see the deeper cloud (frontal snow?)moving up from france on this meteosat link http://wind.met.fu-berlin.de/cgi-bin/meteo...playmode=Endlos

Not sure if it will give much here but snow is falling steadily as I type.

  11. Got 2nd interview 50 miles south in Swindon today not sure about the travel, I assume its down south anyone near Swindon or just north of the M4 ?

Stewfox, I`m 5 miles north west of swindon and woke to the the slightest of snow coverings earlier but its snowing more steadily (not that heavy) now and sticking. Not expecting masses of the white stuff today, roads should be ok, on the main ones any way.
