  1. It'd be interesting to hear from anyone around Stoke right now. Can see the shower on NW Radar and from my location, but no reports at 'ground zero' other than Staffordshire whomn I believe would be in the cell i'm currently looking at atm.

Well I saw it coming from Stoke direction and decided a walk to Tesco was needed to view the storm. And not a sausage. :(

Intense rain over the hills East of Macc, but other than that nothing. :(

Hope theres more coming for me, unless the stafford storm of 9 May, has completely used my quota for this year. Lol.

  2. I think people are relying too much on the BBC forecast plotting a individual cell to break out slap-bang over their house. In reality all they can do is the same as anyone else chasing the outbreak tomorrow and watch the same CAPE/lift charts then base a crude forecast 24hr out of that outlier. The closer it gets to the storms initiating obviously the better we'll know what area's will be affected overall but right now were talking about regions than individual counties, nevermind as resolute as towns/cities.

Yeah, I should probably look at this more in this way, just sitting around hoping is doing my nut in. So will just do whatever I normally do, and await the thunder, rather than chase it. :D

  3. Its looking like the convergence zone across the Cheshire Plain/Mersey Estuary will be enough lift to break the cap currently in place (aswell as DPs from the estuary giving it that extra moisture needed), orographic lift will also come into play further along past Lancs holding the cell/s at bay as they begin to transition NE out into the North Sea. If you draw a line between Liverpool and Newcastle I certainly would be watching out for today's potential.

Looking good for something here in Macclesfield. Was dubious of getting anything until this morning, but might get the camera out in hope! Some Ac Cas clouds here as well now.

    Mike.

  4. Interesting report come in from one of my friends after the storm over Stafford, and a bit of an appeal for more information. My friend has told me he saw a blue/green/aqua/teal tear shaped ball of light quite low down over the town, with a huge blue ora to it. The lightning was quite low, and he said it looked like it either went down to the ground or was expanding and shrinking, there was no noise from it, and he said it was 'too perfectly orby'. It might be an explosion, it might be a generator hit by lightning, but with that report possibly a Ball Lightning event has taken place. Did anyone else see something?

    Cheers,

    Mike.

PS. There was a greenish glow above the town approx 10x the size of the orb, during the event.

  5. Wow, definately no longer a member of the no storms club. That storm was amazing! I am only 19 years old but that is the most beautiful and most powerful storm I have EVER seen. Somewhere in the region of 150 discharges of lightning, at a rate of 1 per second. Pink Lightning, 70% IC, 25% C-C, 5% CG. I am utterly stunned. Rain was torrential but well needed. I can see a long line of heavy rain coming in still, is that electrified too?

  6. Im following the radar too, it looks like the last frame is showing them deteriorate :cray: I reckon they are travelling a bit to far N for me. Like NNE instead of NE. There's loads of cumulus about and surprisingly lots of sunshine with how much cloud there is around. Fingers crossed now.

Best of luck to you as well. As I speak, gone dark, and still, warm and slightly humid still though.

    Cheers,

    Mike.

  7. post-11361-0-30074000-1304806715_thumb.gheres the situation at 2200hrs i have just drawn up! as you can see the cold front is seperate from the trough to the east, this makes it to the area of the trough later, like meeting up really then this is like a bit of a battle, this then causing some fighting of airmasses ..cold and warm air battle it out making storms!:drinks:

That trough is dead over Stafford at present, I'm a little clueless is that good for storms over us if the cold front hits it over us?

    Cheers,

    Mike.
