  1. I once saw the tops of cars and telegraph wires glow blue, just before a C-G lightning strike. Was that St. Elmo's fire?

Yep i would think so! Ive seen the top of power pilons glowing blue before before they were struck in france. Also my friend said that on a flight back from Dubai she saw static sparks jumping along the planes wings right before it was struck by lightning.

I would pay good money to see this with my own eyes!

  2. Probably already been discussed but im excited for a change.

A LEVEL 1 FOR MY AREA! This has got to be like the first this year?

... UK, Ireland and Scotland ...

Placed beneath a vertically stacked depression, daytime driven thunderstorms are forecast. Weak shear precludes organized convection, but I'd at least expect a few marginal hail events with that activity. Also, GFS indicates a fairly well organized LL depression with enhanced LL shear, especially during the evening hours ( 12 m/s LL shear, up to 200 m^2/s^2 SRH1 and low LCLs). We don't want to rule out a few tornado reports with that activity. Thunderstorms gradually decay after sunset.

Holy onions! I bet the suns shines all day

  3. Well it has become a bit of a joke here.... Manchester, just 20 miles from me has already had about 5-10 thunderstorms this year, all that we missed.

This place is a miserable boring hole for weather. Cold, damp, dreary and 50+ inches of rain a year with nout thunderstorms. Crap-hole.

Looks like today's crapvection isn't coming to much either, apart from the usual SE and these days, NE. Just a cold Novemberish day in July like all the other summers since 2006.

My camera has been waiting on standby for 10 months to record a storm and i feel like throwing it out of the window in frustration.

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Hang in there man im in the same boat, 95mm rain only this year no thunderstorms overhead for atleast a year there always only so many miles away south :@ But dont worry its July which is normaly a pretty good month for uk thunderstorms!

  4. Hi Nick.

How come High Risk - A high risk of severe convective weather exists. Rarely, if ever used on the UK. Hail >5cm, or wind gusts in excess of 80mph, or >20% risk of a tornado within 50 miles of a point, or >70% risk of localised flooding.

wasn't used yesterday when the CAPE was over 2500?

Because as yesterday showed us we simply dont get storms like that in the uk lol we are lucky to get a damn rumble

  5. I sat and watched the onionsty radar most of the night and suprise suprise this onionsty country yet again fails to pull a single elevated cloud out of its I have a problem! Ive seen storms in the past have more strikes then ive seen in the past 5 years easy Lettuce this country it has nothing going for it weather wise
