  1. Brilliant - thanks for keeping us up to date Sue. Been thinking about you and the fella and the new little fella!
  2. An encouraging development with Darren Bett at 20:57 on News 24. For the first time the places labelled with temperatures have changed. It's usually Belfast, Central Lowlands, Aberdeen, Newcastle, Manchester, Norwich, Southampton, Cardiff, Plymouth etc. He showed Sheffield, Lewes and Portsmouth for a change. Very refreshing. Well done Darren.
  3. Saw the fog map last night - and it is as good as could be imagined. But since there's been a couple of weeks of various pediods of fog in the NE - and two days in particular here that were 100m visibility; why has it taken until now?!
  4. Missed (no pun intended - honest) that Andy. have they got their act together? Another recent issue is the discrepency of forecasters using the package. Some choose to use certain features - others don't. Surely a corporate BBC Weather presentation would use a set routine set within certain parameters - for instance the severe thunderstorms on News24 only yesterday weren't showing the flashing symbol - whilst on the BBC1 forecast the presenter did use them over the same puddles of blue and green...
  5. I suppose it's just a matter of time until the first front hitting cold air - or like last year, cold air digging in behind a rain band, reveals how the package is going to illustrate sleet and snow. I think we'll need a new thread then for everyone's complaints - because on the BBC Weather Centre's current track record it's going to be at best dissapointing and more likely very very poor if not non-existent.
  6. If a photo or picture is posted on a web page, then it has to be the intention of the poster that they don't mind others downloading it. Otherwise they would not share it.
  7. So it's taken them 6 months to pop a lightning symbol onto the graphics. But then another problem, where is the symbol/graphic for mist and fog? Such an important feature in terms of travelling by road and air - with safety very much a consideration. But what do we get from the BBC new graphics package? Nothing. Appalling. How hard can it be to come up with a grey/white fuzziness that moves around the map? Perhaps like lightning they'll have it sorted in 6 months time...
  8. Ahhhhh - brilliant! Nothing more to say!
  9. It's back! "Unfortunately the site fell over just hours after I went on Holiday for 5 days! I've just got back and put in a temporary fix to get things going for the weekend but the buoy data is going to be missing until I have a bit more time to investigate what's going on. Sorry for the inconvenience, I hope to have everything back to normal shortly".
  10. Beer was what stopped me too. And far too much of it! Still activity today - KP5 or 6 consistently. Out at a party in Midlothian tonight - so less light pollution; will keep an eye out and undoubtedly get a crowd gathered in the back garden!
  11. The site seems to have been down since Monday 14.00. Anyone know what's going on? http://www.xcweather.co.uk/
  12. The readings on the KP index graph are increasing steadily this morning - up to KP5 -now in the red zone. Need to keep an eye on this. ANd it's sunny and not too cloudy so far....
  13. It's typical isn't it - today is sunny and the clearest in terms of visibility it's been for quite a while - can see right up into the Mountains from here. And 'no major activity detected'.
  14. Mist and cloud unfortunately here - general humidity/dampness in the air. Looking good for someone up here though.
  15. 1200 noon: Temperature 22 °C Weather Mostly Cloudy Pressure (MSL) 1009 mb Pressure trend Falling Wind speed 6 knots Wind dir NE Visibility 15.0 km
  16. TM - Ozzy is a respected Geographer and Scotch fan. You can tell with his posts. EDIT: Can I just comment that the map used is superb - bang up to date and accurate. Just hope there's no-one in the Northern Isles.
  17. Aye you're right CMD. The STV forecast with the fly-through across from Fort William/Ben Nevis down to Ayr and back up through Glasgow across teh Lowlands to Lothian/Fife is, and always has been superb. The detail of the land is similar to Google Earth. However, the accuracy of this forecast after 48hrs has a poor track record.
  18. Beautiful sunny start to the day - W'ly 9mph, 13C/7C, so feeling fresh, but the sun is still strong. Cloud building a little now - but the sky is still only 50/50 obscured.
  19. The big graph with the left (y) axis showing the kp index: Realtes to the furthest south it is likely to be seen: So KP9 and nearly all of the UK's in with a shot.
  20. Now, I'm a complete rooky on this subject, but with a forecast kp7 - and the kp7 line over the borders of Southern Scotland - is it worth pottering up to a N'ly vantage point tonight? How often do the indicators change - and is it worth keeping an eye on this through the evening?
  21. On the BBC1 Scotland - Reporting Scotland national forecast at 18:55 (fondly known as 'Heather's Weather'), the senior forecaster, one 'Heather', last night made a telling comment. The newscaster cut to the weather with a witty comment about addressing any complaints to her - she retorted 'I get enough letters in my postbag about our 'lovely' new graphics - thank you very much!'. The sarcasm in her voice was spectacular.
  22. Sunny, not too cool but windy morning. 18mph Sw'ly - 16C/8C. Clouds scuttling by... Beautiful.
  23. Temp 20C, dew point 6C Wind NW - 9mph Beautiful and sunny; with cummulus cloud building.
  24. What's wrong with downloading the UKMO charts this evening? Or is it me?!!!
  25. Funny how the psychic didn't forsee the blaze. <groan>
