That's my 2nd storm today, just passed through with 1 CG and heavy rain. Still pouring with what looks like more to come
-
A decent looking cell passing over London ATM. Also more dense precip behind it.
South Essex and North Kent might well be in the firing line this evening!
-
Going black here now!
Rain today suggests a short sharp event but several more to follow.
-
She reckoned a flash came in her back room and bounced off the wall (she reckons).
I wouldn't dismiss her account, I've witnessed the same (funnily enough at my mums house) the lightning entered through the kitchen door window and exited through the main kitchen window so these things do happen. Just try getting someone to believe you.
-
Is that heading towards us?
I fear not, probably too far north for you. Just had another 2 IC and CG strikes, plenty of thunder but the skies now clearing so that may be my lot for today but I will wait with anticipation!
-
Another IC strike and a loud 10 second rumble, anyone in Southend is in for a treat!
-
Fantastic stuff..... Horizontal rain and 5mm falling in as many minutes, radio still going mental and a huge rumble as I'm typing!! What a day, time to change my signature!
-
I can see it coming, it's gonna give me a right spanking, big black and ugly
-
The London storm is now moving into Kent/South Essex. Good luck to anyone in its path, it could be a wild ride!!
what am radio station would you recommend?
Any AM frequency, it doesn't even need to be a radio station as the bandwith of lightning is so wide you will hear it wherever. This is the principle that Marconi exploited when he developed radio comms with Morse code using a spark generator.
-
Eye of the storm or what?
I'm completely surrounded by huge clouds and lightning/thunder .. Sorry for gloating
-
what do i change my radio to , to hear the strikes?
Any am radio station will do, I have UK Gold on MW and the strikes just obliterate the signal, you can also tell CG and IC from the sound... IC's are sort of stretched and muted where CG's are sharp and strong.

A huge storm just to my NW, my radio picked up 5 strikes in 3 minutes, the IOW detector seems to have spotted them although the range is a bit generous!!!
-
Getting very dark in the city of London, cell approaching from the west
I've been watching that build on radar, I think it might have my name on it
-
Surprised there's little in the way of discussion about the explosion of lightning activity across NE England/SE Scotland
And the SE, there appears to be activity on the IOW detector right on my doorstep but I haven't heard or seen anything yet??
-
Just had a massive downpour here and more on its way.
Can anyone explain why i'm seeing the dark storm clouds heading NE and low level white cloud heading South? It looks a bit spooky, also tiny funnel clouds are forming but not amounting to much!
-
bloody storm.... went from red echos 10 miles from me to light greens as it passed over (no ligntning) then as soon as it get into essex it kicks off again.....aaarrrgghhh
Sorry Mike, another massive IC and thunder, spread for what sounded like 10 miles West to East.
-
Very dark cloud approaching and you can see the rain pouring from it from a few miles away. Should be interesting when it arrives.
It doesn't look very dark in this picture.
I'm on the other side of that Lauren, 2 IC strikes and 3 rumbles, plus some very heavy raindrops. It's heading SSE very slowly so you may be lucky to get the tail end of it.
-
Locally now very dark skies, a few large drips falling and tracking approx N/E at 10mph. The back end is about 20 miles to my west and looks interesting but no sferics so I suppose it's not going to amount to much.
-
Awesome pic where are you?
-
Theres another one popping up behind that one (and growing), which does look like to have your name on it!!
Oooh that would be nice. I can see a line of CB's to my south that seem to have stalled in a line west to east along the Thames. Shame they didn't do much!
-
can see the Cb from here in Essex - looking to the S-West
looks impressive - the tops look quite icey/streaky - although not that well defined#
hophing it doesn'tdecay before it approaches Essex
would atleast like to hear some thunder even if from a distance !!
This is what it looks like from Basildon, not very well defined from my viewpoint but might bring some rain, not expecting much else though!!
-
If anything happens in Basildon ???? It already has mate........a cracking good funnel cloud there this morning was photographed, and posted on Ukww.
I saw that article, but it's only an event in my eyes if I actually witnessed it, Basildon's quite a large area!
-
Watching these cells go totally round me.... Grrrr!!!
Hope your all enjoying a show if your getting what I'm seeing the edge of.... In fact today we have had about 1cm rain all day
I share your pain, if anything happens here in Bas I'll let you know since you should be in the firing line.

Afternoon all, Lovely large black cell passing ovehead here (north Brentwood) some mild mammatus and heavy rain falling from its trailing edge. One rumble but no lightning seen yet. I seem to be a storm magnet lately
