Impressive storm at 4:30pm here, but it's rapidly getting dark again ..... perhaps more of the same imminent, 2 in a day ?second decent storm here within a week! some close cracks, seems to be more electrically active as it moved north of here constant thunder now to my north, wow
-
There is a lot more heavy on the radar heading right for us.After the lightning and heavy rain earlier (4:30pm) this should slow the last of the rush hour down (If the M6 can get any slower)Yep thundering here too, although not seen any lightening as yet. Massive area over Wales towards Chester area heading our way by the look of it
-
I was right under the path here (Great Sankey, Warrington).
The 'sound and light' show has just finished here ..... for the time being !
-
Try this, interestingly still no June update, and the weekly link failed !Not moaning at all....even if it's the moan thread! But..........how long do you think this can go on for, before it becomes an issue rainfall wise? I work in Somerset, which had some bad flooding last year. At the moment, it just seems to be sunshine from dawn til dusk every day. Looks like that is set to continue for a good while yet at least. I wonder how long before the drought word crops up on the news??
Oh and could you all put water out for the birds, hedgehogs etc etc!!! Thanks.

Thanks for the prompt feedback, looks like it is !
Not spotted the anomalous propagation like that, the temperature gradient must be substantial, but it's the shape of things to come
-
Looks like there is activity in NW Wales now !
-
Looks like there is rain into Anglesey now but it's anomalous propagation. The temperature gradient must be substantial, and it's the shape of things to come for the storm watchersIts 25.1C here and mostly clear skies, now this is what summer is about just need the evening storms now!

This dutch website gives a taste on the continental activity
http://members.home.nl/tianwa/noni/journaal/weerindexjournaal.html
It may be too much for some to see all this activity over on the near continent tonight !

Just had a loud rumble here, wondered what the hell it was but I'm assuming thunder!!
Looking at the radar and spherics, rain and static heading into Cheshire from Wales shortly !
-
In south Warrington it is some of the densest, wettest snow imaginable, only 2 inches at most. But causing far more trouble on the roads than the deeper, drier snow in previous days where the roads stayed mostly clear.
Altrincham - Lymm - Grappenhall A56 was tricky at 6pm .... wouldn't like to drive it now the salt's all washed off !
-
Looks like it could be a long night on this bit of the M6
They're out of the vehicles at J27 ....
-
Even if it does start to Snow here in Macclesfield it wont stick as everything is so dam wet now after the dam Rain.
I said that here in 'low lying' Warrington an hour ago and now it's white over again !
-
Wind getting right up now and the rain is back after less heavy rain today here in leyland, lancashire.
We got a false sense of security earlier, with the less heavy rain I thought the worst was over here too, Chiffer !
Although it looks clear on the radar to the NW out in the Irish Sea, where the low is centred, it's dragging the heavy rain into the Cheshire Gap !!!
-
Thanks to Gibby and others for the analysis, although I'm not looking beyond the weekend since FI is 120hrs for me at present !
There is nice agreement with MetO and GFS on the pressure drop in this locality. Between 12noon Sat to 12noon Sunday, it's quick, a little too quick for my liking, both dropping 15mb.
-
The southern flank is certainly slower 'salopwatcher' but the NW to SE movement is winning.
I'll be joining Chris R shortly for some late sun to dry us out !
-
The line in the north seems to be pivoting between Manchester and Liverpool and as such that area has/is taking a beating... look great on the Radar!
Had 1 hour now of Thunder, albeit distant now.
It's still black to my South so I might see a second pulse ..... watch this space
-
Storm passing over Warrington, Heavy rain and small hail, and Thunder and Lightning overhead
-
Unless the southern part intensifies it's going to miss Warrington and everything SE of Bury.
Looks like West Lancashire will get the worst !
-
N wales and NW England need to look at the pulse forming in SW Wales currently heading this way.
Thanks for the 'heads-up' but I hope Snowdonia doesn't attentuate it's ferocity !
-
Looking across the models next week with my untrained eye, I cannot see any difference between them.
Jet steam looks to just meander over Nothern France with the odd move north over the UK.
Mediocre pressure, some times low, sometimes a HP ridge. Plenty of rain, some sun, all in all ........mixed and cooling off.
As for cooling off, something that caught my eye, 12C here for the Bank Holiday Monday, FI yes I know but food for thought !
-
A lovely summer's evening here with temperatures still close to 70f with clear skies and no wind.
The calm before the storm perhaps?
Same here..... certainly the calm before the storm !
-
Does anyone else think the Met Office warnings need to be extended?
The Metoffice have their eyes on the Maritime conditions
.... severe gales expected in East Central Section, Sole and Shannon.
With the low at 972mb on the +24hr Fax issued at 16:09UTC it could prove nasty.
I believe the Fastnet low in Aug 1979 was 979mb from a quick search on the internet !
Edit: the 982mB posted above isn't far different either ?

Looking thundery around here now
It's 'make or break' time now.
There is a line of new showers forming as mentioned by Supacell. The line is roughly Chester, Crewe, Stafford, Tamworth.
The next 30 minutes should give a better indication of how it will play out !
-
3:50 and still no sferics. It's got to be now or never?
Just gone from clear blue skies to totally grey in 30 minutes here .... so it could be 'Now'
