Ah yes, Hagar, just another normal day at the office then! Hope you've got a good supply of candles, batteries, torches and a decent supply of even more necessary necessaries....beer, whisky, wine, chocolate etc.
Been there, done that lol! Went and ran the gauntlet at Tescos yesterday and we have plenty candles, gas etc.

I agree with Frosty. This cold has been quite dogged and persistent with lows previous to todays being squeezed further south and the cold hanging on especially up my way. "I think the models are still really struggling with the persistent cold block to the northeast," is spot on I reckon.

Absolutely appalling conditions expected up here later today and overnight. Gusts expected in the region of 70-80mph with the possibility of heavy snow later tonight with blizzard conditions. Add to that the highest astronomical tides of the year and the possibility of coastal flooding (SEPA already has a warning out for Shetland). Could be fun if we don't lose power!

Continuing to see strong to gale force winds up here and tomorrow looks worse with Sunday even worse still. As a result there hasn't been a ferry between here and Aberdeen since Wednesday and tomorrows are likely to be cancelled as well. There is a distinct possibility we may not see another ferry until Boxing Day! (although Northlink are hoping they may be able to run one in both directions on Sunday night). As a result, the shops here are almost bare and the Scottish Govt has been asked for assistance to fly supplies up to Shetland. Tesco have taken matters into their own hands and have chartered a C-130 Hercules to fly supllies up on Saturday and Sunday. They are hoping to get two flights in on each day!
